There's no point in bringing KHL to Samara instead of Tolyatti, it's the same metropolitan area. It was always considered as a place for a minor affiliate of Lada.

Samara is bigger, prettier and wealthier city, that's gonna be further developed by WC2018. And they could have better arena as well.

So, after hearing that Jan Muršak signed a deal with Amur Khabarovsk I got into research.

It seems Amur has a 100% attendance record, for their 7,100 seat arena, during the past five KHL seasons and that the city itself has about 600,000 inhabitants. Do they have any plans to build a new and larger arena in the near future? Sure their Platinum arena is only a decade old, but it seems they could easily support an arena in the range of about 12,000 seats

Volgograd? No, nothing. Well, there is a rumor that Volgograd's basketball team owner, which is called "Red October", wants to build a new basketball hall, so probably the only possibility for Volgograd to get a hockey venue is if that thing will be a Multipurpose Arena with enough space for a rink. And that is highly unlikely. Simple court will be a lot cheaper.

And I have my doubts that Volgograd has enough money in the budget for a hockey arena, considering that at the moment they're preoccupied with 45000 seat football stadium for the World Cup.

Tatneft Arena got the new lighting system. No more yellow ice and oversaturated spots.
