Pittsburgh-Washington has been a rivalry long before Crosby or Ovechkin entered the league, and likely will be after they're retired. They played 6 playoff series in the 1990s alone.
This is true. It was a rivalry back to the Patrick Division days. It's also why the Atlantic Division has some of the best rivalries in the NHL today. The Patrick was always very similar to the current day Atlantic.
Since the Deadwings aren't competition anymore since there aging superstars and our youngblood....I guess the option for Colorado is St.Louis because of the trade
I think it's the opposite bro. Colorado is no competition for Detroit.
I would actually say it's more of a rival between Canucks fans and the Maple Leafs. They always seem to talk about how much they hate Toronto and all the media attention we get, complaining about playing a game at 4:00 PM PST in Vancouver on a Saturday and etc. However I have never seen any Maple Leafs fans say anything bad about Vancouver and etc.
Could not care less about the Leafs as a team, but I absolutely hate that Toronto based sports media. Its almost as if once the Leafs get bounced all your hockey coverage turns to slamming the Canucks. HNIC is especially bad, and has led me to stop watching nearly all their non-playoff, non-Canuck coverage.

Still cheer for you guys though.
To be fair, I think it's safe to say that we hate HNIC too, depending on the commentators. Specificially, the team we had most of the time: Jim Hughson, Craig Simpson, and Glenn Healy. God damn Healy .
Well, for Ottawa, it's probably easiest to point out the Atlantic.
-Philadelphia - a number of past playoff series and generally good physical games when we play them
-Pittsburgh - a number of playoff series in recent years
-New York Rangers - a fairly intense playoff series last year, generally good games during the season
-New Jersey Devils - back when the Sens were contenders, New Jersey was another major player in the Eastern Conference and obviously more successful; a number of playoff matchups
-New York Islanders - less of a rivalry than the others, but still a playoff series here as well
We have history and good match-ups with most of these teams, so it's probably one of these teams at any given time.
With regard to the Southeast, most of the rivalries are fleeting.
There was a bizarre attempt at a rivalry with Washington with the "Capital Cup" which was an exhibition game with the Caps back when Ottawa had no modern history of its own and has since fallen out of fashion.
There was a bit of a rivalry with the Lightning in terms of which expansion team would be successful first, with Tampa obviously winning that race.
In the Western Conference, we don't really have rivalries, aside from the oddly entertaining games against Los Angeles which often are much more physical and hate-filled than they ought to be.

What? Are you serious?
When the Canucks had their run to the Finals in 2010-2011 HNIC was criticized for being blatantly pro-Canucks. I think you're creating a problem that doesn't exist.

Send them back west then! Hughson and Simpson are infinitely better than Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes; who are arguably the worst broadcast duo in any national sports broadcast. You're more than welcome to keep that negative nancy Glenn Healy though

I'm sorry, but I have trouble believing this assertion. Who exactly was criticizing them? A source would be much appreciated.

And I don't really like the Canucks.
Hughson definitely was, but that was to be expected given his long-standing affiliation with the franchise. Cherry, MacLean, Stock, Milbury etc. were most certainly not pro-Canucks, but I you clearly seem to already know this haha.
These games seem to be becoming less of a big deal as the years go on. Ovechkin's getting worse and Crosby's getting hurt.
If you look at it as a Crosby vs. Ovechkin rivalry then yes...but Pens and Caps fans have been hating each other for two decades. When you play each other almost every ****ing year in the playoffs for a decade there tends to be some bad blood...especially when it's been as one-sided as things have been.
The Penguins aren't lacking rivals, that much is sure. Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, Tampa...they all have legitimate claims as rivals. Carolina is assuredly going to develop into one soon...basically the only franchises in the eastern conference the Penguins are fairly neutral with at this point are Toronto and Winnipeg.
