"I really don't know what next year holds. I don't know the direction (of the team). Do I wanna rebuild? Do I wanna be on a team if we fully rebuild? I don't know that I do," Iginla said honestly during a post-game scrum following a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 82.
"I don't know what the situation will be. But do I want to fully rebuild? I'd be lying to you if I said that I do. At the same time, the organization has to do what they want to do."
At this point, you need to let him go. It's what's best for the organization. They've got some nice pieces to rebuild with (Baerschi, Brodie etc.) and they could use a few more.
Let's be honest here, with any decent playmaker Jarome Iginla would have a great year. There are like 10 teams in the league that would be top contenders if Iggy went there.
Iggy is still a very good player. He's now at a point in his career that he can no longer carry the offensive burden of a team. If he's the #2 or #3 best forward on a team, that would be the best position for him to be in. He can still put up 35 goals and be close to a PPG range, add the physical element, and leadership to a contending team.
I think I'm going to take Lowe's word as a grain of salt. The past is not and should not always be a good indication of where things go in the future. A fragile market 10 years ago does not mean a fragile market now.
He might be a bumbling fool but he's right on this. Can you honestly tell me the Flames would continue to sell out during a stretch of over half a decade of no playoffs finishing 30th, 30th, and 29th? I'm honestly surprised Edmonton is still selling out at this point, I doubt Calgary would. And don't say "We sell out after missing 3 years", they are still competitive (90, 94, and 90 points) and not even close to tearing it down.
I don't think it would dip to jobing.com Arenas-type levels but it would still drop. Perhaps they would cover the entire upper section with tarp and claim 17,140 as a sellout....again.

There is no way to know as you said Edmonton still sells out there are alot of corporate owned tickets in Calgary they could still sell out.
in Jaromes interview from few days ago, he clearly states he does not want to be part of a rebuild so better move him cause he doesnt deserve to be on a rebuilding team at this point of his career. So even though he wont ask for a trade, he obviously wants to win a cup now. The man has accomplished everything in his career except a cup, and thats the only thing he needs to make his career complete.
stop making things up. he clearly stated he didn't know if he wanted to be part of a FULL rebuild.

Funny thing is, he would never be part of a full rebuild because he would need to be traded for a full rebuild to happen. So this quote really leaves you with nothing.
Nope....no way....as a Flyer fan I would love to have Iggy but not at that price....and you wouldn't get that anyways ....I want to wait until he is a free agent next year.....

Calgary has a lot more money right now than it did in the 90s. It's also got 25% larger population. As long as they can sell a little hope the way the Oilers have been doing, the Flames should be okay for a few years of rebuild.
Yeah, just need Malkin, Chara, Stamkos, Perry, Karlsson and a new bottom 6 and 3rd pairing. Couple pieces.
Bottom six and third pairing are fine. The Flames need a couple of top line forwards and at least one top pairing defender, but the lower echelons of the team are quite solid.

I wouldn't know what would happen and neither would you. Edmonton has been filling their arena consistently. It shouldn't be a surprise to you; they do it every year. You can knock their team but the fanbase is there.
That 1999 draft was very weak, and Atlanta really struck out with their Patrik Stefan pick at #1. Just look at the first round from that year. There were a few that panned out, Havlat and Jackman, and a couple that played in this league, but it was a weak draft year.
Tanking from 1997 to 2000 didn't build this team, but it gave them a couple of key pieces to build around.
I'm not sure what your point is??? I never suggested Vancouver tanked. I just stated that the Sedins were essentially two first overall picks. It was a unique situation.
