I don't think Buffalo should target Stewart, especially in a trade for Vanek. Stewart is big and has the ability to score, but he comes with baggage, from what I can tell. On top of being mentally frail/having character concerns, he slumps.

I've always liked Cole. He would be an interesting complimentary piece to a player better than Stewart.

Chris Stewart isn't the first guy that comes to mind when Regier talks about improving the competitiveness of the team.

Exactly.

We ought to ring up Colorado and ask about Landeskog. oh, pipe dreams. Why couldn't we just suck all of last year.

Thats just the thing tho we arnt gonna get a guy in a trade that is coming off a great year. Take the chance on Stewart, he had 1 down year. the kid has the toold to be a good power forward

28 goals in 62 games a year ago. Give him a chance

plus I only do that trade if we get a guy like B. Ryan in a trade or sign Parise.

If they get Ryan or Parise, then you don't need a guy like Stewart.

I disagree with the premise that they can't get a guy coming off a good year. And it isn't the bad year that makes Stewart a less than ideal fit when you are talking about adding competitiveness to the Sabres.

It's the streakiness in effort that is the question.

ASSETS: Owns tremendous size and strength, and is at his best when working the corners of the ice. Is physical and plays with a warrior's mentality (most of the time). Is faster than most think, and has what it takes to score lots of goals, including a bullet for a shot.

FLAWS: Consistency continues to escape him, which he needs in order to hit the next level of his development. Has to play with an edge at all times. Must also continue working on his play away from the puck and in his own end.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Quality power forward with upside.

Drew plays more of a finesse game than Stewart. I prefer Drew; I think Stafford's turning into a "glue-guy" that teams need to win. Buffalo paid him to be a primary scorer - he's not. But he's a valuable player with a good head on his shoulders. His work ethic "issues" are severely overstated. I think he's a hard worker.

None of the same can be said of Stewart.

One is Canadian and one is American.....

Seriously though, the biggest difference is that Stewart plays a much more physical game. As an example, Drew Stafford has 0 major penalties the past two seasons and Stewart had 7 this season alone. Over the past four seasons, it's 25 majors for Stewart versus 2 for Stafford.

Stewart is more of a "power forward" where Stafford is more of a "big scoring forward".
