Someone probably did one or two team logos that looked good in the style, someone else approved the design before anyone saw how the rest of the teams turned out, and by the time anyone realized they look like **** they had to be done.
If they are supposed to be seasonal (hot outside, logo melting) then it's even more likely it was just a time crunch. Still, someone probably should have vetoed these along the way.
EXACTLY! I hate the Red Wings with a passion, and am drawn to that melting logo like a moth to a flame. It's like the death of Detroit. Gawd, I want it! Maybe worn with ripped jeans. Yeah, cool. Die Wings die! (Maybe I can get a Wings killer's name put on the back, like Deader, Deadmarsh.
They're very handy. If you don't like a team and they're coming to your town, you pick up their melting shirt. Black Hawks fans will buy the melting Red Wing Shirt, Red Wings Shirt will buy the melting Black Hawks shirt and so on. Advanced marketing.
Some folks have more money than brains - your scenario might play out.
They are ass ugly though. Marketing failure for sure.
