I don't think Regeir sees this as a need as much as I do, but I'd really like someone steadier than Leopold as the 4/5...
With San Jose likely looking to shake things up, I could see Douglass Murray being available. I didn't see many Sharks games this year so I don't know if his play has trailed off at all. He's also only signed for one more year (2.5).

There just isn't alot of defensive depth in this years FA class. I don't think we need to sign anyone, just keep everybody healthy. With such a lack of guys people are going to overpay for them.
In a 4/5 role he'd be fine. He's just not a top pairing guy. He'd certainly be an upgrade over Leopold in that role. But I do agree, the only d-man worth "overpaying" for is Stuart. If we could get Allen in a 2 year, 4 million total deal I'd be interested, but he'll likely get 3-4 a year on the open market.

He wouldn't, it's that simple. He took a very big step back this year with his play. Thing is he will still make 4 mil + on the open market and I'm not paying that for a 4/5 guy. The only guy I could deal with is probably Jackman (and I would not overpay). I think he can be a true shut down guy and play top 4 min (possibly top parring) in that role. Of course we would have to let Regehr walk after next season, and if Robyn plays well next year I'm not so sure I wouldn't rather just re-sign him.

Once again I prefer to stay away from the FA market this year besides low cap hit players that help us improve our bottom 6 by getting bigger and tougher.

I'd actually think Brad Stuart could be a great addition. Still has some wheels, Stanley Cup Winner, good character guy.
I'd add Hannan to that list, too. We know Darcy loves ex-Flames defensemen. Still, I don't think Darcy does much to the defense this summer. I could see them re-signing Sulzer, possibly trading Weber (in a Roy package, perhaps) and nothing more.

If we could replace leopold woth murray that would be amazing, him and regher could be a deadly pairing

Would be a disaster IMO. You need to have at least one guy who can skate on the pairing.

consider it a scary-ass shutdown pairing then - maybe a PK possibility...

Please Darcy, Please!

Kesler should probably be scratched off everyone's wishlist. Getting Surgery which will put him out of playing hockey for 6 months.

I can't think of any off the top of my head.

(in response to the Roy to Chicago for Mcneil/Pirri idea)
Nieuwendyk for Iginla back in the day comes to mind.

edit: just realized I'm responding to a question that's a month old!

That's why you don't post first thing in the morning before you get your first cup of joe.
