There's just something about his wry intelligence that would never work on American television, but is just perfect for HNIC. The way he can sit next to a blowhard like Cherry for 5 minutes, then close the segment with a dry little pun that takes a few seconds to catch up to.

Can you even imagine someone like MacLean paired with John Madden? That would be some funny **** every Sunday.

Ron Mclean is awesome. He's one of the main reasons I love CBC. His puns always make me laugh. Yesterdays titanic reference was hilarious.

He actually ripped on Healy after Healy made that jerk comment to Francis on the hotstove last weekend. Implied that Healy was a tool who shilled for teams in the media in exchange for inside access. Looked like McLean was sticking up for Francis and I like that.

What was the Titanic joke? I was at the game last night and missed it.

FWIW, I think Maclean is great as long as he sticks to being a host and moderator of the discussions. When we tries to act like the analyst sometimes he gets into trouble. He's great at things like the Olympics, and I think the NHL Awards are poorer for not having someone like him as host anymore. Yes, he's pretty corny and schmaltzy but he understands the game, its culture and history.

His book is pretty entertaining for people who are fans.

His work on Hockey Day in Canada is award worthy every year.

Hanging around Cherry as much as he does and being a long time referee, I'd say his knowledge of the game may be a bit underestimated by many posters here.

Despite the fact I think Eric Francis is a moron, I think Healy is more of a moron, so I can respect this.

Ron's awesome, anyways. I read his book and became a fan.
