Neither would I. I like TK but I think he would do very well in the west, he seems to play that brand of hockey.

The Pens top 9 would then be..

Kunitz, Crosby, Iginla
Boychuk, Malkin, Neal
Cooke, Sutter, Dupuis

I would change that 1st to a Conditional 1st. Condition being the Pens either make it to the finals or re-sign Iginla, if neither happens, it turns into a 3rd.

That's a fair trade IMO too.

I think I'd rather see this:

Dupuis - Crosby - Iginla
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Cooke - Sutter - Jeffrey/Boychuk

I don't think Calgary would go for the Conditional 1st though. How often to star players get moved at the deadline w/o one being part of the deal?

I wouldn't mind this deal as a last resort when rolling into the playoffs.

EDIT: None of the Penguins big defensive prospects are proven, with the exception of Simon Despres, and Morrow was struggling a bit in the AHL so I'm not about to pencil him into the top 4 yet.
To be fair, Morrow's play has improved by leaps and bounds now that the lockout is over and the logjam of defensemen in Wilkes-Barre has thinned out a bit. Getting consistent shifts has helped his confidence, I think.

However, I don't get people saying he's untouchable, none of the Pens' prospects should be untouchable. Very few players on the NHL roster are untouchable.

Too much to give up for a rental with a full NTC.

I'd rather give up Pouliot, Kennedy and a 2nd than Maatta, Kennedy and a 1st.

I think the Flames are high on Pouliot, too.

Just sayin'.

i'd probably keep Pouliot over Maatta. obviously Shero saw something special in him to warrant drafting him 8th overall last year. there might be a reason Maatta fell, too. that could be attributed to different draft boards, but TSN had him at like #10 or something and he fell to #22.

i'd do Maatta, Kennedy, and a conditional 1st that becomes a 2nd if the Pens don't re-sign Iginla or don't make the conference finals.

IIRC, Maatta slipped due to an injury he sustained. It wasn't his play that dropped him.

Far too much for a few games of renting Iggy. At least Shero thought that he had a very good chance to resign Hossa. With Iggy? He would certainly return to Calgary after the playoffs end. Further scoring hardly is an issue for the Pens.

Pens are third in the NHL in goals scored:

The Pens were first in goals scored by ten goals over #2 last year:

I wouldn't be content just because the team ranks high in goals. Shero should make his team as strong as possible and Iginla helps that.

I don't think Shero will part with Pouliot. He liked him enough to spend the 8th overall on him so I don't think he'll be available for a rental. Maata, 1st, Kennedy and one of Jeffrey/Tangradi is about the most I'd offer. Otherwise Iginla can stay in Calgary or go to another contender.

We have some assets that can be used, and I actually think will be used. But to waste them on a definate rental? What a waste. Use them for a long term wing solution and I am on board. But this? Meh.
