He's played in 207 games the past 3 seasons. He has been playing at around a 90 point pace for all but 18 of those games, not coincidentally the first 11 games this year, and the first 4 games of last season.

2012: 93 Points in 77 games, 99 point pace

2013: 44 points in 41 games, 88 point pace

2014: 80 points in 71 games, 92 point pace

That is 91% of his games played the past 3 seasons.

Now before we commence with the "cherry picking" comments, I had this same argument in the Giroux vs Kessel thread earlier in the year. I was saying that Kessel had only outscored Giroux in something like 60 games in the middle of a 140 game span, using a breakout similar to the one above.

I said that Giroux would eventually overtake Kessel in points despite his bad start because he's capable of producing at a 100 point clip for extended periods of time, like the last 56 games of this past year, and generally is around a 90 point player.

Basically what I'm saying is this: What do you think is more indicative of the player Giroux is? The 91% where he's a 90 point player, or the 8% where he was coming off of injury and playing like a 40 point player?

Even including all of his games, Giroux has still produced at an 87 point over 82 game pace for the past 340 games.
And Tavares has basically MATCHED that except when he was 20/21...I said it once and I'll say it again; the two are equal. Neither one is "clearly better" than the other.

Just look at their production the last two seasons. They have produced at essentially the same clip offensively.

I have no problem with anyone picking Giroux, or thinking/saying he's better, but claiming that there is some obvious gap or that Giroux is "clearly" ahead is what confuses me.

You're definition of basically matched is kind of odd considering Tavares has only paced for 90 points over a span of 56 games, and never had a full ppg season in his career.

well lets use some of that Giroux logic from earlier in the thread... Tavares gad 81 points in 82 games in 2011-12... I talked to him and he said for about 10 of those games he wasn't feeling up to standard... so lets knock out those games and give him some extra points...because come on if he was 100% he would totally of had those points.. BAM now magically he is over a ppg.

It doesn't require any magic to see that Giroux is around a 90 point player, and Tavares has yet to get close to that.

That's also just looking at points and ignoring faceoffs, defense and PKing, physicality etc.
