Red Wings lose in overtime

All in all, a very good night for the Hurricanes.

IIRC, Rutherford said he did consider it, but the prices were too high. I'm not sure in what world a 3rd/5th for Hemsky or a 4th for Penner is too high, but there you have it. Both would have helped. They're UFAs, but they could have possibly been re-signed.

You sons of *****es need to stop with this optimistic crap. I do that every season just to get crushed, and I was hoping being on this board would temper that optimism with the constant negativity and sky is falling attitude around here. More doom and gloom, less "so you're telling me there's a chance"!

Hay guys, all we have to do is win these next 3 against the Rangers and Debbils, and we'll be right in the thick of things for that 3rd spot in the division!

Let's get excited!!!

Don't worry, if when they lose the next three games, this board will completely implode.

It's our March tradition.

I never give up completely until we're mathematically done. I don't think it's likely, but I always get my hopes up a bit. "If we just have a month like January, we can still make the playoffs! Especially since we play all the teams in front of us. Just win THOSE games especially and we can do it!" It usually doesn't take long for reality to set back in. But it's nice to still have a small glimmer of hope since we don't have much to look forward to otherwise. It took a 13-1-2 stretch in 08-09 the last time we made the playoffs, so you just never know. Maybe they got all the awful hockey out of their systems during that terrible stretch. Hopefully we go on that run and not the "holy crap we just won 5 straight and are back in it....crap now we lost 5 straight again just like all year".

I dunno...I kinda get the feeling that the inevitability of disappointment has swept through our ranks, so the rants will be more rare. I can think of one who will want to "discuss" that disappointment, but the rest of us will probably have sheltered our emotions.

Obviously not a season-changing difference, but for a night in which you didn't play, a >1% increase is significant, regardless of where you are in the season.

Good night last night.

Dustin Penner has been on fire on Twitter since coming to Washington. First, immediately after the trade:

The Wings pounded New Jersey for 7 goals, so of course the Devils are going to slaughter the Canes tomorrow.

Or worse, the Canes will win and we can pretend they still have a shot at the playoffs.

So, Ward vs. Brodeur tomorrow in a battle of washed-up has-beens who used to face each other in Pivotal Global Events?

Also, can we change the name of this thread to "Is it too late to scoreboard watch?"

It could be worse. We could always be the Islanders:

http://guardianlv.com/2014/03/new-yo...deo-nhl-daily/

Quote:
...The Islanders have understandably struggled since that point. They have lost six out of the nine games played since returning from the Olympic break, but what is most concerning is how the losses are happening. In last night’s loss against the Calgary Flames, the Islanders held a 3-1 lead going into the third period. The Flames scored three unanswered goals in that period, winning the game in regulation and extended the numbers of a very disturbing pattern for New York fans. The loss of a two-goal lead against the Flames was the fourteenth time the Islanders have blown such a lead this season and the twelfth time that the blown lead has led to a loss. In fact, the last three losses for the team have come when the Islanders held a two-goal lead going into the final period...

Either I am reading it wrong, or your math is off. By my count they've only played 6 games total since returning from the Olympic break.

You are correct. I have no idea where I got that number from. That's what I get for writing articles early in the morning.

Updated with a more correct statistic. Thanks.

Peverley collapsed on the Stars bench. Was taken to the hospital and is apparently conscious.

Scary stuff, the video is posted. Whole Stars bench hops over the ice because they can't get the ref's attention. Game postponed.
