No. Carlyle is still coaching the team and will continue to use talented players as scapegoat and run them out of town.
Plus the team still needs 1-2 forwards capable of playing on a shutdown line as well as the PK and another top4 defenceman that plays a defensively responsible game (trade involving Franson?).
Right now the team is not better compared to last year today but there is still some time to get the players mentioned above.
However, we will not see the much needed culture change because that would have to start by replacing the coach.
They make a big splash, and sign a FA to a huge deal, and get mocked and *****ed at for the whole season. So then, they decide they won't over pay in FA this year, like so many other teams did...
Then, they sign some good cheap minor deals, and everyone is laughing saying the leafs should have a signed a big deal, and no one will come here, and all this.
I think it is more fun to laugh at the leafs over nothing than for people to cheer for their own teams sometimes.
Indeed they can't. I find that funny as well, being a Habs fan...
More seriously, the Leafs will start getting respect once they get out of the perpetual mediocrity circle they seem stuck in. Other than the more extreme, jihadist Leafs fans that remain, most people look at anything the Leafs do as if waiting for the punchline of a joke. No offense meant, Leafs are going to be a good team eventually, maybe you guys will draft McDavid (and not trade that pick, for once...).
There needs to be a deep change of mentality in that team. Has the current management established any form of ''plan'' to the media? Burke's was truculance and pugnacity. What does Shanahan want? When are they going to find out drafting and developping young, loyal and talented players is the key to building a successful team?
