They could have informally floated the idea with Shogun without informing Glovers camp.
That would make sense. Glover has little to lose & would sign as soon as you put a pen in his hand.
For shogun its a very dangerous fight with little to gain & everything to lose, especially coming off a loss. I don't buy the scared theory, his managent is being smart here.
Let glover beat up a few more guys & they will have that fight.
Why did the UFC think it would be good to offer a 6 fight contract to someone his age? Whoever it's against, I hope it's at least competitive. Also, is there some sort of massive family tree to track who is directly related to who in the Gracie family?

He helped broker the deal between Zuffa and the guys in Abu Dhabi. Renzo is the BJJ instructor for one of the guys.
I get throwing the guy a bone for helping with something as big as that but dunno. Just seems strange they gave him 6 fights unless the UFC has a set way of offering amounts of fights that I don't know about.
And thanks for the Gracie family tree. Helps paint the picture at least a bit better.

With the way they cut guys I wouldn't surprise me if they could cut Renzo at any point, but who knows. If he fights again and wins, great, have him fight again. It does seem like they tend to sign a lot of guys to 6 fight deals. I believe Couture signed a 6 fight deal not long before he retired and still had fights left on his deal.

Ah okay. So maybe 6 fights is sort of their default. Makes a bit more sense.
Who cares what the contract length is? The UFC cuts guys all the time, I'm sure if they needed to cut him they could. Plus, Renzo clearly is in no rush to fight anyway. I have a better chance of fighting 6 times in the UFC than Renzo does.

I was just wondering. Was intrigued by the fact that someone who's 45 and hasn't fought in a long while had 5 fights left on his deal was all.
For a Fuel/FX card its fine as a main event. Miocic is one of the best HW prospects around, and being a Euro card he'll get a bit of a bump. I'm sure someone like Hardy will be co-main eventing.
I kind of like Struve to upset the apple cart here. Struve's only real weakness is his chin, and I don't know if Miocic can KO him or even finish him. Struve never (consciously) gives up and he can easily grab a sub from the ground over 25 minutes and win this fight.
