My feelings going into the playoffs are that the games will mostly be ones with the rule book completely thrown out the window and the ref only calls a penalty when it will have dramatic affect. Something similar to the game today. One team gets away with a dozen penalties, refs finally call something after a player draws enough attention to it, then the refs call the first play that's a borderline penalty they see the team on the power play commit. It's infuriating as a fan.

Just call the game according to the rules. I am so tired of this "Oh you want to watch a power play festival." or "That's not real hockey. The players should decide it themselves." garbage that ignorant fans blabber about. The players do decide the games when they commit penalties. Which team can get away with as much mugging as possible isn't hockey. That's the reason this league is a joke to most. There is never any standard. It's impossible to explain to a new fan the rules because the league itself doesn't adhere to them all of the time. It's almost embarrassing to be an NHL fan at times.

New NHL-Old NHL...same officiating, same retards in the league office. Most of these head injuries are the result of blatant attempts to injure.

I think setting a pick should be allowed like in Basketball as long as there is no hooking, holding, or knocking a guy down. I don't see what's wrong with slowing a guy down by forcing him to go around you. I definetly don't want the hooking and holding back in the game.
Coaches, through a few years of trial and error, have figured out how to defend with the new rules. There are a lot more blocked shots and the stick check has become more of an art form.
I know it goes against the grain but it you want more scoring you have to make the nets bigger or shrink goalie equipment more. The goalies have gotten bigger and better and not just there equipment. Most teams won't even look at a goalie today unless he's over 6' tall. Now you're seeing a lot of 6'3" and up goalies with incredible athletic skills. The goalies are getting bigger so the nets have to get bigger. JMO

you have to adjust to the rules being called. In 2008 Detroit did it to us all series and won. In 2009 we learned to do it back.

they are moving too fast it would be pretty dangerous. I also haven't seen a single person in here say the biggest problem is a lack of scoring. If I'm trying to teach a kid to read I wouldn't give him a book on tape. Sure, he'd be able to understand the story but he still wouldn't know how to read. If we increase the nets/decrease goalie pads there would be more scoring, but the flow of the game would still suck.

That's the whole idea. It would force them to slow down a bit. These guys are professionals. They can skate around other players even at high speeds. The ones where colisions are involved could be looked at as a penalty, possibly charging or checking a guy without the puck.

I think that would just be adding a lot more grey area for refs to make calls.

Where I'm seeing a lot of problem is when guys are dumping pucks in. It's like the old clutch and grab era where a guy dumps it in, one guy holds the guy who dumped in the puck while his partner goes and gets the puck.
Yeah that's a big part of it. Right after the lock out, the defenseman basically had to turn around and race for the puck. Then gradually they let the subtle picking of the forward back in and now they are letting the d stand the guy up and hold for a few seconds before it's interference. It hasn't been overnight, but if you showed a play 6 years ago vs this year, what's allowed has drastically increased.
