Don Cherry on CBC today says between 200-300 players won't be brought by their teams. Which Bruins will not be back? He also said he doesn't like the players going to Europe and taking other players jobs.

idk. if you figure the number of players that retire, join other leagues, or simply are surpassed by better players on the depth chart??? can't be that far off. Mottau,Rolston,Thomas this season . Recchi,Hnidy the season prior.

Ya I suppose it could be around 100, that's still a large number of players that are going to forego a year's salary. I know most of these guy's have made huge money, but I'd still be pissed if I missed out on a million bucks. Mottau and Rolston might have been able to get a one year deal for this season, but if they miss the entire year they'll never be back. What about guys like Brodeur and Selanne, those guys' careers ended by a lockout, kind of a crappy way to go IMO.

That is why i believe that ultimately the Nhlpa will crumble. Too many players on their last legs or just borderline NHLer's.
After the last lockout there were over 200 players who never came back to their NHL teams, he said they went with younger cheaper players.
If a player has a contract, he'll be back. If not, he won't. As others have said, it happens every year, lockout or no lockout.
Every member of the Bruins is under contract, unless you're counting Mottau and Rolston, and I don't know why anyone would. They weren't going to sign with the Bruins this fall anyway.
Sure, it stinks terribly that some guys who might have eked out another year in the NHL will probably miss out, but it's certainly not news.
One huge thing to consider are all the players that became ufa's after the last lockout. Contracts expired after the lockout freeing up a lot of players to sign elsewhere like they do every year.
I'm likely to get flame for asking, but I'm gonna ask anyways.
Savvy isn't going to be playing regardless of whether or not a new CBA is signed. Since he's still under contract, does he forgo pay as well? Or since he was injured while playing or the team's insurance policy, cover his salary in light of the lockout?

The latter I believe applies to all injured players. They are also the only ones allowed to use team facilities (and trainers, etc) during the lockout.

Makes sense. I figured it was similar to a workers' comp situation.
So one would think Crosby could still collect during the lockout as well if he never said he was officially 100%?
IMO, the worst casualty of the last lockout were great players who never got to have a last game and final sendoff. Or perhaps the year off put a return physically out of reach:
Vincent Damphousse
Ron Francis
Igor Larionov
Al MacInnis
Mark Messier
Adam Oates
Felix Potvin
Scott Stevens
