impending UFAs on a playoff team.

it's that time of the year again: the playoffs are in the picture but you've got impending UFAs who might want to play the market come summertime.

what do you think is the correct course of action for your team?

Depends on how big of a role they play on the team, whether or not you could acquire or already have in house acceptable replacements, and whether the team is a legit cup contender or likely to bounce in the 1st round.

logic says that depth never hurts and anyone has a shot at getting to the SCF. lots of 8th seeders have pulled it off.

Keep them. The entire purpose of the league is to win the cup. Giving up any player puts winning it at risk.

It always cracks me up when fans of a team firmly entrenched in the playoffs, and some of even Stanley Cup contenders, are thinking trading their pending free agents is a great idea...

Redundancy is one thing... but the whole point is to strengthen, deepen the roster immediately at the deadline... Those types of teams are the buying rentals.. not trying to sell them.

Of course you keep your UFAs 9 times outta 10.. always exceptions of course.

Depends who they are and what the return is. Trading a pending UFA doesn't have to mean your team is getting worse, there are plenty of situations where it could improve the team. This whole mindset that it automatically makes a team worse is kinda silly.

It was just after the all star break that the Devils really started rolling and they came within 2 wins of the Stanley Cup with Parise logging big minutes.

So I can't help but find it ridiculous when people suggest trading core players of a contending team.

Maybe start a poll about core players as opposed to the simple UFA poll thread you posted in. Might get different results.

Somehow my eyes crossed the title of this poll and the "trading away star players" thread and lumped them into one.

when i created the poll, i was thinking along the lines of core UFAs like Parise and Suter - players that make a difference in a playoff run.

You keep them unless you are somehow trading them for an upgrade and that isn't likely since they are about to become UFAs.

You lose them for nothing, of course.
