That was a dreadful game. We had nearly two threads of us *****ing how boring the game was. Considering it was against the Leafs. I'll leave you one guess what else we *****ed about.

You just said in previous post that you haven't watch the Habs in other games

It's becoming apparent that "your team being unable to score goals" = "other team is trapping".

What the hell? Who made that claim? Obviously in this day and age I can watch any team I choose. So what?

YOU STATED "I haven't watched them in other games". So make up your ****ing 'mind' - if you're able. Damn - pick a viewpoint and stick with it!

Logic?!!? Hilarious!

That opener was a boring a game, Montreal was completely lost, Toronto too but slightly less so, and the execution & timing on basic plays were awful.

What a ridiculous thread...

Moral of the story: Montreal can't do anything right...
If you're leading by 1 goal with a couple of minutes to play, you will play defensively, and that hoes for any team...

When I said "I didn't watch other games", I was referring to full 60 minutes, but people just wait to jump on the opportunity. Hence, the second post.

I thought post-lockout would mark the end of the of trap era but it seems Montreal has picked up exactly where the others left. Montreal strategy = clog up the neutral zone and hope for an odd man rush or a powerplay, I'm not mocking it, infact good for Montreal and Therrien for find something that works for them. But it is just points out that teams are soon going to go back to playing the trap and boring hockey very soon. NHL and the NHLPA should have done something during the lockout to ban or discourage this style of hockey which is killing the game. They had the perfect opportunity to address the issue but they didn't even bother. I guarantee that by game 35 half the league is going to be playing the same brand of hockey an we will long for the days of exciting games of the begining of the season. NHL & NHLPA should have done something for the fans that discourages this style of hockey that while successfull for certain teams produces boring games.

(side note: It will be interesting to see how Subban adjusts to this system, I have a feeling that he won't buy in to Therrien's system)
ummm if you knew anything about hockey you would see that your own team plays more of a trap while we play a left wing lock system, basically the same thing though. Every team plays a trap style depending on the in game situation, dont be a sore loser.

Send a message via MSN to Rise from the Ashes
Habs strategy:

Beginning of the game, high forecheck, quick transition game.

Score a few goals, try and keep up high intensity and speed. If coaches make adjustments, similarly make defensive adjustments. Thats all there is to it.

Teams are having a hard time dealing with the great passes from Diaz and Markov right now.

Beautiful find !!

Therrien actually uses a 2-2-1 system, sending one guy in to forecheck aggressively on the puck carrier. It as far from the trap as you will ever see.

Somebody is obviously butthurt here. Move along.

In fact, when watching the habs' first 4 games, my first thought was: finally, we're not playing a boring exclusively defensive system anymore, we're playing more of an exciting game that allows offense.

I think Therrien has decided to trust Price more, and take it chill (just a little though) on defense. It's nice to see this new style of play in Montreal, after Martin/Cunneyworth/Carbonneau...

I'm guessing in your neck of the woods trap means something else than it does here or the rest of the hockey world.

And the "trap" teams list grows and grows.

Welcome Habs fans and don't worry, if you're being labled with the "trap" then you're winning.

Most teams play some kind of trap nowadays, it's nothing new. Bruins do it and it works well for them so it's fine with me.

I've seen every Montreal game so far besides one and I don't see a team that is as boring as it was the last couple of years. I see a team that reminds me of when Carbonneau was coach because they heavily rely on special teams. They dont have the tools to compete with the best teams at even strenght but they work hard, hope for weak calls and then capitalize on the powerplay. The key to winning against them will be to stay out of the penalty box.

Habs finally run and gun after years of boring hockey yet they trap?

The Jacques Martin era has ended... so has the neutral zone trap for the Habs, they've just been playing really well defensively.

As a Habs fan, I can say that yesterdays game was no where near the energy-level and excitement of previous games but it definitely wasn't a 'trap' game LOL.

Which school did you learn about hockey at? I want to make sure never to bring my children to that one.

I don't get this thread, we run a fairly aggressive forecheck. What you're confusing the trap with is how our D's hold the blueline/apply pressure in the neutral zone because we have one of the best puck-playing goaltenders in the league in Price, who pretty much kills the dump and chase.

Ok, so the thread answered the OP's question, several times over... "no the Habs don't play the trap", and I guess "boring" is subjective. Don't need much more on this one, do we?
