ANA - NJD (prospect)

Just putting this out there...

The Ducks have a slight excess on RW prospects (what with a set of young wingers already on the NHL roster), and D prospects drop off in quality after Theodore and Vatanen. In particular, RHD seems to be the order of the day.

Meanwhile, the Devils have an excellent set of D prospects, while the RW prospect pool is amazingly barren.

What would need to be changed to make this work?

Anaheim gets:
Damon Severson

New Jersey gets:
Stefan Noesen

Not bad but I'd much rather hang onto Severson. Still really don't know what his potential is so too early to trade IMO.

What's going on with Noesen? He seemed like he had a rather poor draft+1 year.

He busted his knee and missed almost whole year.

Ah okay. I remember him being drafted but just quickly looked up his stats and it looked like a disappointing year.

Probably a definite pass then. Not because of the value, but because of the injury. Busted knees can change players, especially high-powered forwards. Would need to see how Noesen bounces back first.

If we're giving up Severson I'd want Silfverberg.

I'd do it, simply because I like Severson.

EDIT: For Noesen, I mean.

Severson is the better prospect both in ceiling and floor.

Wouldn't do it from a Devils perspective.

Noesen is a similar prospect to Matteau and that is not what New Jersey is really looking for, especially at the cost of a potential top pairing dman. The fact that Noesen is a RW is a big plus to NJ but not enough of a plus.

Not at all.

He very well maybe the Devils all around best D prospect...And that says a lot for a system with Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas et al in it.

We got to see him in the preseason last year before he was returned to juniors and he did not look one bit out of place playing against pros as an 18, just turned 19 year old.

We'll see him extensively this preseason and we'll have a better understanding of where he is exactly...But I think there is a good chance he is going to make a strong push for a position this year, although it may not be situationally feasible.

I believe he is going to be a good defender that can skate well, use his 6'2-210 frame effectively and has a good heavy shot to go along with it- The question is what is his overall ceiling.

It doesn't make much sense to trade a player with these tools solely to fill a prospect positional void. Not only is Severson a better prospect than Noesen he is a year younger as well.

No way from NJ. Severson has a high ceiling and is close to NHL ready.

Potential top pairing Dman... I think we will keep him

Expect him to be the best out of all our D prospects

I have a hard time trading Severson until we see him in NHL action. His ceiling is just too high to risk trading him low.

I've heard some people claim that Severson is the best prospect we've had since Zach Parise. He's a two-way force, pretty safe, has an enormous ceiling, and has a great pedigree from Kelowna. You'll need a legitimate bluechip prospect to get us to pick up the phone. Noesen is a good prospect but he's not at that level.

You'd need to give up one of Palmieri, Etem, or Silfverberg to get NJ to even consider. And even then I have a feeling many Devils fans would be hesitant to accept.

I'm all for trading one of out winger prospects for some defensive prospects, but giving up one of our NHL wingers for a defensive prospect is just dumb. If you guys value Damon Severson at that level then there is no deal to be had.

I agree. Not good trading partners.

If he truly does have top pairing potential, i'm happy for you guys and the Devils should probably keep him. Hoping Noesen can have a confidence building year in Norfolk and then maybe make the Bobby Ryan deal even sweeter than it is so far.
