Im assuming by all the trolling this thread is being heavitely moderated, Could one of those mods explain why out of all the boards per each NHL team, only edmontons does not show the post/thread count?
a combination of jealousy, bitterness, and knowledge that edmonton will soon become a powerhouse team in the west are most likely the responses you're looking for
Lol think that if you want, but it's mostly an acknowlegement of how much CBJ needed the pick, and of how long Edmonton has sucked.
Oiler management have done nothing.....to complement their budding star forwards for 2+ years. They've chosen not to fill (gaping) holes in their roster and one wonders if this was deliberate or just incompetence.
Either way...I think it makes it easy for SOME people to hate on that team because any future success seems tainted.
You're wrong on this one. Crappy drafting, management and coaching over the past 10 years have put them in this position.
The name of the game is to win and you should try to do that every year. Not making the team better is on the management, not drafting good players outside of the past 4 years is on scouting and not being able to come up with a winning strategy is on the coaching staff. Lots of people had the Oilers pegged to be just on the outside looking in this year, so it's not like they couldn't have done a little better.
I'm not pissed that they got this pick, it's god for them. But to let the coaches, management and scouting off the hook is wrong IMO. They are the reason they are where they are today and as much fun as it is to be getting the 1st pick, wouldn't you rather be getting ready to watch your team in the playoffs?
While it was very unlucky for you guys to lose the lottery you`re making it sounds like since you lost you`ll be getting a crap player. Grigorenko could easily be just as good as Yakupov. Think of it as getting Malkin instead of Ovechkin.
Everybody knows this draft isn't that deep. Yakupov is the consensus #1 and everyone else is a question mark. It's more likely we draft Grigorenko and he turns into another Zherdev.
If I was Edmonton, I would trade the pick. Make a trade to fill other needs. They don't need another scorer. This is opportunity to turnaround the team. Two things about drafting Yakopov; first thing is he could eventually bolt for mother Russia(must keep that in mind with all Russians), secondly he isn't going to make them a lot better next year. They still need a good defense and goalie more than a scorer. I would trade that pick. They have enough talent that with a well thought out trade, this team could be a strong contender for years.
I'm sorry for what i'm about to expose, but it needs to be said. The whole thing is rigged. Bettman will stop at nothing to bring back Edmonton to its dynasty years. 2006 made it too obvious, we thought we would tease everybody, throw an offer sheet here and there, try to sign some UFA's and be competitive then not competitive year in and year out.
In 2009 under the glorious leadership of Steve Tambellini the master plan was set into action as it was prophesied oh so long ago. The first 30th place finish was a work of art, and couldn't have been done better by anyone. The second year much like the first went according to plan but it was starting to arouse suspicion as evident by the amount "my idea for the draft lottery" threads.
2011-2012 something had to change, the wool could no longer be pulled over the keen eyes, those who could see crystal clear what was happening in Edmonton and secretly the NHL. Tambellini knew that he could no longer be last but what if he went down one position? How could anybody possibly think anything was wrong?. Bettman rigged the lottery so that finishing second last would guarantee the three peat of 1st overall picks to Edmonton.
Next year will be the final phase, Edmonton will win the lottery again, this time being 4th last. Remember I warned you all. Spread the word.
Personally I see them trading their first overall. You can have a great front end, but I'm not sure if you can outscore the poor defense group that they have, and the goaltending issues they face. I see that pick being traded to a team for a defenseman and a pick
Unless it gets them Weber there is no way they trade the pick.
Typical HF over-reaction... Grigs is not THAT much worse than Yakupov ( if Columbus chooses Grigs 2nd ) to warrant the doom and gloom predictions for the Blue Jacket franchise.
While it was very unlucky for you guys to lose the lottery you`re making it sounds like since you lost you`ll be getting a crap player. Grigorenko could easily be just as good as Yakupov. Think of it as getting Malkin instead of Ovechkin.
The complaints with Grigorenko have been his attitude, consistency and being all offence...sounds a lot like the CBJ Russian busts.
