I admit not all are "elite" but all have a ton of talent and will/are big pieces to there teams.
All have all been picked 15th or later. That is an average of 3.83 a year.
With good scouting a team should be able to get 3 or 4 of those over a 6 year period.
Look at this list:
1. Marc-Andre Fleury (*)
2. Eric Staal (*)
3. Nathan Horton (*)
1. Alexander Ovechkin
2. Evgeni Malkin (*)
3. Cam Barker
1. Sidney Crosby (*)
2. Bobby Ryan
3. Jack Johnson
1. Erik Johnson
2. Jordan Staal
3. Jonathan Toews (*)
1. Patrick Kane (*)
2. James van Riemsdyk
3. Kyle Turris
1. Steven Stamkos
2. Drew Doughty
3. Zach Bogosian
1. John Tavares
2. Victor Hedman
3. Matt Duchene
Seems like a great deal of elite talent.
Problem with the "could" draft group - relies too much on the luck of the draw. Fundamentally, how can you ensure elite talent? Draft early, and draft often, or have a contending team that UFA's would like to go to.
Best way to get to be a contender is elite talent. Seems pretty obvious.
What kind of math are you using? A 3.83 average/year over a 6 year period is 23 players in total. There's 30 teams in the league, so on average that's not even 1 player per team for the 6 year period, yet you think teams should be getting 3-4 players?
It really makes no sense. Every team spends hundred of thousands of dollars on scouting but apparently if you don't get 3-4 incredible players every year you are failing?

But all scouting is not equal the better teams get 2-3 later picks that turn out (I shouldn't have used 3-4) over a 6-7 year period.
You guys seem fine with drafting where you are so I will leave this thread alone.
You know, I think the guy has been pretty civil given the chirping he is taking around here. He is sticking on topic without the blatant shots he is receiving. H e has an opinion, he is free to state it as long as he remians civil which is more than I can say for some of the Oiler fan comments in this thread.
On another topic, Silverhairedevil sounds pretty familar to me for some reason, did you used to post under another name?
Sorry to disappoint you, this is the only account I have ever had with HF boards, as I only recently discovered its existence.
Perhaps the sarcasm in my posts is what is familiar to you.
I have been an Oiler fan since I was a kid in the 70's and I don't care for flames fans telling me how the Oilers should be run. My hate for the Flames and their fans is old and deep

This here would be the bottom line. /thread like the end of Calgary's playoff hopes.
Well now that the flames are out, we should create The official "watch the canucks fail" thread.
I honestly hate the canucks more than the flames.
It's close. Just different.
The Flames hatred is deep seeded and has staying power. Loooong history. And the dislike isn't going anywhere.
The Canucks' is more acute. Present. And when I envision the pouty faces of both Burrows and Lapierre, it's current and intense.
I loved being at last year's final home game - won by the Oil against the Canucks, btw - and listening to the crowd chant "First Round Exit... First Round Exit..."
While the premonition was far from coming true, the disdain for the Canucks at that moment was pretty severe. The playoff's gong show of a dive fest just made it worse.
I gotta say, I'm hoping like heck the Preds are strong enough this year to knock Vancouver off in what I'm assuming will be the Western Final.

Agree completely, been a fan almost as long and i cant for the life of me figure out why any non Oiler fan gives a shyte how this team is run, it should make ZERO difference to them, just like it makes zero difference to me how other teams build their team...ZERO...couldnt care less...the only possible reason i can think of is that they are scared sh**less about how good this team will be in the next few years, its the only reason they can possibly hate the Oilers (god knows it has nothing to do with being a tough or dirty or cheap team to play against, so it has to be because we are going to dominate them in a short amount of time).
Once again, if your not an Oiler fan, your opinion means nothing to me, its not your team, so dont lose any sleep over it. If we were at the top of the league every year, you can bet your life i couldnt care less who is at the bottom, those teams are irrelevant to me, and if they are in the lotto for a few years, still makes no diff to me, doesnt affect my team, so why would i care?

Just playing a little devils advocate, but how many oiler fans have gone into flames threads (main board and otherwise), and told them they need to rebuild?

I hate the flames, just for the record
I'm pretty sure that would be a quick way to get banned from any thread over there.... Not I, although it would probably be a good idea for them to look at it with due seriousness. Their team is the current poster child of mediocrity.
I'm a big fan of not telling other team's fans on how their org should be run. I'll call their GM's, coaches, and players names though...
Well there appears to be a canucks version of this thread now and this one has done it's job. So I am going to shut this one down rather than have 2 potential minefields for us to mod. If anyone can make a good argument as to why this thread should stay open, PM me.
