Except the Olympics are held once every four years and the Centers on Team Canada usually bring more than one element.
Crosby, Stamkos, Giroux, Getzlaf, E. Staal, Big Joe just to distribute the puck. Spezza has never made the Olympic team so experience is non-existent. Who is he going to beat out?
Crosby, Stamkos, Toews...are locks.
Giroux will play wing.
Getzlaf, Staal, Thornton, shouldn't even be in the convo.
Bergeron could be considered, but I'd take Spezza everytime.
Spezza is an elite penalty killer...In 2010-2011 he was dominant on the PK, but I don't expect anyone on here to realize this.

I'd rather have Getzlaf with Perry, those 2 came through tremendously towards the end of the last Olympics, so why're we excluding him over Spezza? because Spezza had 1 good year in last 4? which happened to be last season? this is the first time in 4 years Getzlaf had a season under ppg.
As for the 4th line role which concerns defensive zone starts and faceoffs, give me Bergeron 10/10 times over Spezza, I was one of the guys who bashed Bergeron's selection last go round, but anyone who watched the games, knows he did his role splendidly.

Did Getzlaf even score a goal last year?? I mean come on. Also Spezza hasn't had a down year ever. What are you going on about??
It's a tough team to crack, but out of the 14 forwards do you leave out a veteran ppg player, who was the 3rd highest scoring Canadian player last NHL season??

I didn't think he was very good at all, last Olympics, as I believe he was injured in the first game (groin pull). That said, I still think he should make the team again and will play an even bigger role in shutting down the opposition.

once again, the role he's supposed to play will be played by/can be played by MUCH better players then Spezza, you want to use him as a 4th line center? alright cool, but this isn't NHL13 where you can roll 4 scoring lines.
Stamkos and Giroux were the other 2 centers ahead of him, clearly better.
Crosby would've easily topped him, clearly better.
Toews although isn't as good offensively, just brings more to the table then Spezza.

I already said that Crosby, Stamkos, and Toews were locks, and I'm pretty sure that Giroux will play wing. So there's no argument there.
On these big ice surfaces you CAN roll 4 scoring lines, why the hell not. Also you act like elite scorers have know clue how to defend or something.

The only problem is that Canada never actually does roll four scoring lines, and with Yzerman in charge (and Babcock likely coaching) that doesn't look to change. Look for three scoring lines, and one two-way line (i.e., Toews-Richards-Bergeron/Nash, or something to that effect). That would be a great defensive line, and have enough of an offensive presence to keep the opposition honest.

True.
So do we leave off Spezza, Taveres, Staal, Thornton....because the centers are obviously Crosby, Stamkos, Toews, Bergeron?(maybe)??????
Do we put Spezza, Taveres, Staal or Thornton on the wing????

If I were constructing the team I'd definitely leave Thornton and Getzlaf off, probably Spezza, and maybe Staal (assuming you're referring to Eric). Tavares gets moved to the wing, as well as Giroux. I'm probably higher on Spezza than Hockey Canada is actually; he wasn't really in the running for a spot in 2010, and our World Championships team didn't require his services last spring. If Spezza were playing in early 2013-2014 at the same level as he was last year, I may actually be inclined to try and find a spot for him on my personal roster. But that's not to say I think he'll make it, because I don't.
Tavares - Crosby - Perry
Staal - Stamkos - Giroux
Hall - Toews - Eberle/Nash
Richards - Bergeron - Seguin

Fair enough, I myself have Spezza over Taveres and Staal.
I wish we could see a season this 2012-2013 year, so we'd all have a better idea on who is on the rise and who cant hack it anymore. I feel that Spezza is hitting his prime and I felt he was going to have a better year this year than last even but...
