It's more than "a few". Jealous? Jealous of what? That business people go to the Red Wing games to eat and chat with friends in the concourse rather than watch the game? They don't sound much like hockey fans.
I'd rather 100% of the tickets be sold than, say, 98.4%...
Don't know why people are bringing up crime in either city.
If you're signing a Five to Eight year deal, you are obviously a prime player making millions.
You can afford to live in an area that is crime free for the most part.
Florida has nice weather, little personal taxes, plenty to do around the state for leisure.
While their lack of income tax is nice, there are plenty of other issues that hit them in the wallet. For starters, the cost of living is higher in Florida than in other areas. Hell, insuring your house there is a nightmare for obvious reasons.
Weather is also a moot point to me. You're going to be traveling for half the winter, and the time you wont be traveling is from either April or June up until September, and Michigan is going to be a hell of a lot more comfortable weather-wise than Florida in those months.
My gut went with Detroit instantly. Coming from Canada, i have no problems with cold and damp weather for 8-9 months of the year and I'll be on the road for half of it. And i think i'd leave once the season is over.
The only tempting factor for Florida (for me at least) is the no income tax.
Kinda sad how many people picked Florida. No one signs there in real life though so I guess it's not the best indication. I had no idea they had no income tax. How is that possible.
When your a multi millionaire I don't think you'd care about taxes really. I think what's happening on the ice would be more important but I guess it's hard for us average joes to fathom being so rich you don't have to care about taxes.

I've been to Detroit and South Florida and I hated Miami (the city) and thought Detroit was just OK, but I would choose South Florida without even thinking about it. Detroit is probably one of the last NHL cities I would choose. Sure there are nice suburbs in Detroit, but I'm not a suburb type of guy. I like to go out to all of the different parts of the city. There's not much going on in Detroit... However the choices are endless in South Florida.
I'd probably pick Florida. They just won their division and have a big influx of young talent comin' in. So it looks like they'll be pretty competitive for years to come.
and Detroit's history, at least for me, makes me want to play for Florida more. If i'm signing a long-term deal, i'm probably going to be pretty good. But am i going to be able to live up to All-Time Greats such as Yzerman, Sawchuk, Lidstrom, Hasek, etc.? probably not. even if i help them win the Cup, it'll be the Red Wings' 12th+ Cup.
You go to Florida, and even if you're not an all-time great, if you win the Cup, you'll still probably be remembered as a guy who helped Florida win their first.
I'd rather make new history then continue old, but that's just me.
I'd choose Florida based on the fact you could probably walk down the street and not even be recognized. Would be better for a family to not be hearing about how you blew it the last game in news papers and tv stations.
