RD Jacob Trouba - US NTDP, USHL (2012 Draft - Winnipeg Jets)

Trouba was hands down my favorite defenseman of the 2012 draft. I was one of the few guys that had him right behind Murray on their lists. Still love him today. Hampus Lindholm has been great but I still wish we got Trouba instead. He plays with the kind of edge paired with excellent two way play that our blueline has been missing. Happy for Winnipeg though. Shea Weber is definitely the guy I see in him, or perhaps Rob Blake. Still obviously has a long way to go, but the thought that he could reach that level is tantalizing.

I called him a Shea Weber look a like the first time I saw him play. Wanted him on the Ducks so bad but I'll settle for Winnipeg. Basically that's how it will always go for me. If the Ducks can't have him, I hope the Jets get them instead.

They don't have a tryout camp so he's either on the team or he'll be going to the practices before they decide to officially add him or not. They currently have 6 d-men (Faulk, Carle, Petry, Butler, McBain, Hunwick) on the team and could take upwards of 8-9 if they choose but they're probably waiting for guys like Yandle, Byfuglien, Goligoski, etc. to decide and it's possible Jack Johnson will be available as well.

Some things I noticed. Calm demeanor. Doesn't panic. Doesn't take a lot of dumb penalties - despite playing a hard nosed game. Not the guy to quarterback the power play but good -but not too cute- outlet passes and a good shot from the point. Adam Foote is a good comp. Don't like the Cam Fowler comparison. Brooks Orpik with a little more offense would be a comp. Seems to have a high hockey IQ.
