I don't think he makes it to free agency. I think he signs with TB and gets close to the money he was looking for. No state taxes makes 5m per year almost as much as 6m per year. And TB is one good defenseman and a healthy freaking team away from being not only a playoff contender but a cup contender.
I don't see why he would waste his prime in buffalo or NYI which are teams rebuilding basically. Guess we will see.
Switch from wing to center, bump down JT, and we could finally win the cup.
One toss of his helmet onto the ice and other teams would run, errr skate away from him immortal presence. There wouldn't even be a playoffs, Cup would just be awarded to the Islanders at the beginning of the season. The whole season would be a celebration across the rinks of North America, Europe and all planets in the galaxy.
Bow down to Oleg the almighty, bringer of victory.
So far, besides Tampa and Buffalo, I have heard NJ and the Islanders have large interest. The advantage to Callahan would be he would be able to live in his current house and not uproot his family if he stayed in the NY Metro area.
I have also heard the Coyotes have interest, and after that we could see one of the new coaches (not yet hired) make play for Ryan Callahan. He is the kind of player everyone wants, the question is, how much and does he have his head set on returning to Northern NY to play for the Sabres?
