i mentioned this recently on a subforum:
gary suter led d-men in scoring in '88 with 91p (43 on PP). ray bourque, who won the norris easily, was 3rd among d-men with 81p (34 on PP). al macinnis was 2nd with 83p (46 on PP).
'88 boston's top scorers:
bourque: 81p
linseman: 74p
kasper: 70p
neely: 69p
'88 calgary's top scorers:
loob: 106p
bullard: 103p
nieuwendyk: 92p
suter: 91p
mullen: 84p
macinnis: 83p
boston's PP was 3rd worst (16.59%). calgary's PP was 1st (28.46%).
paul coffey scored 67p in 46 games in '88 (42 on PP) and was 7th among all players in points per game.
who would win trophy for best offensive d-man in '88?
rob blake was only tied for 8th in scoring in '98.
lidstrom: 59p
zubov: 57p
niedermayer: 57p
duchesne: 56p
murphy: 52p
ozolinsh: 51p
numminen: 51p
leetch: 50p
blake: 50p
that would not happen.
rod langway won norris in '83 purely on defense with a +/- of 0. in '84 he won purely on D with +14.
'83 runner-up mark howe was +47. '84 runner-up paul coffey was +52.
zubov, niedermayer, bourque and earlier lidstrom were sometimes/usually considered offensive d-men.

Thanks for catching that mistake with 98. Agree with the rest of your points.
