just to declare, im on neither side.....just found this vid posted somewhere.....
Long time hockey fans (people over 30) in Finland have always known the double standards HIFK and it's fans have.
Typical comment from IFK fans at jatkoaika.com during games where IFK is losing: "vittu taas tulee turpaan, tapelkaa joku edes, voitettais edes tappelut!"
By the way, I dont think Ben-Amor is just a random 4th-liner. He is physically excellent, one of the hardest hitters in Finland. In Jokerit, he has proven to be a decent point-scorer too. Last season, 9+6=15 with a minimum ice time. Also useful on powerplay, as he demonstrated in the first two European Trophy games.
He was also a regular penalty killer when he was healthy.
- Kuuluuko tällainen käytös jääkiekkoon, kysyy HBL:n silminnäkijä.
Urheilulehden tiedot tapauksesta ovat samansuuntaiset. Urheilulehden uutispäällikkö Esko Seppänen kertoo tänään ilmestyneen lehden pääkirjoituksessa Ruudun syljeskelleen ottelussa toistuvasti HIFK-pelaajia.
For the ones who don't speak Swedish/Finnish: Ruutu spit saliva and blood on Liivik's and other IFK players' face.
^ hah, right. HBL, and readers of HBL are very reliable sources after everything

HIFK fans should really take off thoose sunglasses...
My speakers must be really crap because I can't hear any of the comments that are supposed to be in there. However, seem those that have better equipment have recognized Valtonen saying the Mustonen to get off the ice but that second comment, the more incriminating one, does not sound like Valtonen and could be one of the players or someone else.
........
Semir Ben-Amor. One of my favorite players, he plays hard, he is super-strong and can play ice-hockey. When his teammate is attacked, he always takes action. Always. When he got to ice, he was like a raging bull, locked on to IFK's best player and captain, then blasted full steam ahead without stopping. The punishment was too harsh, but in general, the message was 10/10. IFK's boneheads have been provocating Jokerit for a long time, and they were asking for this! Too bad for IFK, Jokerit has a bit tougher goons than they have.
.....
Ben-Amor's attack = wrong
Was IFK asking for it? Yes.
I'am not either Jokerit or HIFK fan, but I think about the same.
Jokerit made a point that they wont take **** from anyone, especially from HIFK. Rest of the league and HIFK know this now and Jokerit can concentrate on playing hockey for the rest of the year. Well played by Kekäläinen/Lämsä/Valtonen. Point made by Jokerit - point taken by rest of the league.
Well...Jokerit got some fines, suspensions and lost one sponsor but that's not a big deal in a big picture.
Altough the action by Ben-Amour was too violent, sometimes it takes incident like this before players really start think about respecting each other.
Why are you all talking about the players? This has little to do with Ben-Amor actually.
It's Valtonen, Lämsä, Sormunen, Kekäläinen and Nybondas you should be talking about. And if someone doesn't know what that means, then I don't even know what you're doing on a hockey forum.

In the end Ben-Amor is the one on the ice, but the coaches also took it too far.
Ps. I know these kind of things go on all the time.

They did that because they have highlighted "fair play" and "respecting others" when sponsoring sports.

Sort of ironic since Sanomat Oy's other outlets still sponsor Jokerit (IIRC, Sanomat are huge owners of Jokerit as well?) and Helsingin Sanomat will probably return next season.

HS stated that they aren't going to go on with the sponsorship after this season. Sponsorship payment for this season has most likely been paid already.
All in all pretty good suspensions by the league in my opinion. I would've liked 2 or 3 games for Väänänen and few games more for Ben-Amor as well. Now Salmi's suspension seems quite harsh but I'm sure that the fact that his acts happened after the refs told the teams to calm down plays a major role there (as well as in Ruutu's and Liivik's case).

Their other entities, Ilta-Sanomat and Nelonen are still on board.
