Yeah.. it's not that rare at all. Lots of 0-0 games. Frankly I think it's dumb that they're awarded a shutout despite losing.
Shootout goals are not included for a players point totals on the season, and the goalie did not let any goals in for the duration of the game, he should get the shutout. Curious why you don't think so.

If a goal occurs in OT, it is still a shut out for both of them. That's why it's a bit weird.
I also hate the shootout because the goal can't possibly be counted for an individual, yet it could be counted as a game winning goal and as a goal in the GF category.
I don't remember when it happened with the Leafs this season, but Craig Anderson's first game as a Sen last season vs. the Leafs went into a shootout in a 0-0 tie.
Edit:
This season's 0-0 tie happened against the Flyers.
Wasn't there a 1-0 shootout game with the Flyers about 4 to 6 weeks ago?

The bolded is not true. An example of this is January 5th, 2012.
Here is Mike Smith's stat line from that game: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/...X0PDwgoEJivLYF
