Now when did Finland last even qualify for one of these soccer tournaments? Answer: never.
Wrong answer. Finland has been in the Olympic soccer tournament three times: 1912, 1936 and 1952.
They are from the early era and the last time was automatic entry as hosts, so yes, Finland still pretty much sucks in soccer, but like to get the facts straight anyway.
Some other year I might agree with your point on the number of quality players but this time your analysis is incorrect. Our team was at least on paper with Sweden, if not better. The outcome is mostly a fruit of incompetent coaching, the roots of which lie deep in the structures of Finnish hockey organization.
Then again, maybe you're here just to troll. In that case, no need to bother with a reply.
Well, watching the games and not looking at the paper, I really got the feeling that the Swedish depth guys were far better than Finland's dito. Finland only had a few forwards who were actually a threat. The Swedish players looked much better individually and won most duels.

Ok, you are of course entitled to your opinion. The way I see it this year was that the team did not click at all, leading to extremely ackward plays most of the time. Add to that the numerous boneheaded penalties and team's internal difficulties and it becomes very hard for the players to play at their own level. I guess my point is that you weren't given a chance to witness what they are capable of, not even close, only glimpses here and there.
What does Sweden do in international tournaments? They lose.
I can, without any kind of hesitation declare that Sweden is a bigger loser in international tournaments than Finland. They just plain have lost more..
Only loser cultures acknowledge losing as a positive.
Wtf I'm reading Finland sucks in football and mostly likely is going to always suck in football. Sweden is doing quite well for smallish country in football and you can't denied it.
Why bring more shame to your nation by losing even more games by making the final tournament? I can't see a reason. I have never said Finland is any better than Sweden in football. They both are loser nations in that sport, but Sweden loses in a more grandiose way.
Yeah because we manage to win a few games before we lose, you just lose

first of all, what exactly is your argument? That Sweden=Finland in soccer? If you knew even a bit about the sport how could you even fathom in justifying that?
By your logic that if you haven't won a competition=you're a loser=team sucks=any team that has never won a competition?
I mean really? Is that your logic, please tell me you're joking.
You heard it here first folks, Greece or Denmark=Spain or Germany simply because Greece and Denmark have both won an international competition=automatically non-losers.

I'll translate this for you: it is impossible to play soccer or similar outdoor sports for about half the year, and in some parts it is even worse.
Personally I've never really understood why soccer should even be played here, natural conditions are not suitable at all.
You need not take this personally, it was nothing against Finland or the Finns, it's just a fact...If I was a Spaniard and you told me Spain was the equivalent in hockey as Nigeria I wouldn't get mad, because yes Spain sucks in hockey, the culture is not there and neither is the weather...there's no need in justifying it..
Soccer is a summer sport just like it is for for your fellow Scandinavian neighbors and Russia etc..natural conditions should be pretty fine for soccer?

Russia's southernmost parts are on the same latitudes as the Mediterranean. Even Sweden has this southern part called Scania where winters are milder - and soccer is the top sport there, not so much hockey.
Finland is really getting the short end of the stick here geographically. Also, from a nation of five million, it's hard to uphold a major infrastructure in multiple team sports (Russia and even Sweden have clearly more volume here as well) - so it's really one or the other. And most Finns seem to prefer hockey.
As a reverse example, Norway has a national structure similar to Finland, and seem to be doing fine in soccer - at least better than we do, but they're not much of a hockey power.

Hehe, could have been so but no. Finland is a small country but an important one in hockey. I would hate to see Finland being mediocre in hockey just so that they can become better but still mediocre in 10 other sports.
Okay, you got me. I didn't know the Olympics only recently got reduced to a junior tournament. Sweden are almost as winning of a team in Football as the Leafs are in Hockey
Uh, I might have taken a bait here by a troll, judging by your recent registration date, but would you please shut up, you are just embarrassing yourself, and even worse, your fellow countrymen. Sweden is great in football, especially when taking account of the size of the population compared to bigger , more traditional football powerhouses. Imo, its amazing what they have accomplished in Football.
It is no chance that players like Ibrahimovic or Henrik Larsson have been produced by Sweden...
Anyway, at least one sport where we top Sweden, is probably Motorsports
