If its playoff series only, then add Reijo Ruotsalainen to Edmonton.
I don't really see Pittsburg having any chance. Kurri will shut down Crosby (easy) line. Tikkanen will do same to Mario as he did to Wayne.
Mess and Pronger will cheapshot the lights out of the likes of Francis and Jagr.
This is 4-0 Oilers or maybe penguins get 1 or 2 bcs of suspensions.
I'd put mid 80s Oilers as it was against allstar penguins to make it more interesting. Aside from stupidly stacked habs, Oilers were a perfect storm that only ever got beaten by itself.

Wouldn't you take Markus Naslund over Straka?

This line-up is great, of course, but it's a bit soft. Needs some more grit to face Messier, Tikkanen, Pronger...

The bolded are changes (of preference) I made to the OP's Edmonton line-up:

Ryan Smyth - Wayne Gretzky - Jari Kurri
Craig Simpson - Mark Messier - Glenn Anderson
Kent Nilsson - Connor McDavid - Bill Guerin
Esa Tikkanen - Doug Weight - Leon Draisaitl

Paul Coffey - Adam Larsson
Chris Pronger - Steve Smith
Charlie Huddy - Jason Smith

Grant Fuhr
Curtis Joseph

Kent Nilsson's gotta be on there. Dude was a 131-point scorer in the NHL and won a Cup with the Oil. Draisaitl has proved himself now, and I'll take him over Jason Arnott, who somehow never seemed very likeable to me. Draisaitl is the real deal.

No Kevin Lowe, thanks -- give me Adam Larsson, who, like Draisaitl, has proved himself by now.

I like Ranford -- still a folk-hero in Edmonton -- but his period of greatness was very short-lived. I'm gonna drop him and Moog for CuJo.

I actually like that Smyth-Gretzky-Kurri combo, if you wanna take Tikkanen off it. That would work really well. Gretz and Kurri didn't really need a left winger, they just needed a pylon to get the front of the net, take out a defenceman, and create havoc in the crease. Which is the definition of Smyth. The odd time Kurri's one-timer was stopped by the goalie, Smyth would be there to clean up the garbage.

I'm now thinking... Bill Guerin, or Adam Graves?

(The Oilers can also claim Bernie Nicholls and Vince Damphousse.)

I thought the OP was aiming at how the players were IN Pittsburgh and Edmonton? In that case for example Graves is far fetched to make the team.

Ah, yes, you're right of course. So, maybe forget Graves.

What about Damphousse, though? He was awesome in his one year in Edmonton. He's gotta be over Guerin...

Yes, that's right. We don't really want Shaq in Boston or Lindros in Dallas/Toronto if you will.
