There's a couple issues with this.
Harding wants a chance to start... there's no way he'd sign behind an established starter like MAF. Look for him to go to NJ, Toronto, Tampa, Edmonton, etc.
As talented as Despres is, he isn't ready to be a top pairing guy. Could he be slotted in on the 3rd pairing with getting more icetime for injuries, etc, putting him there isn't going to be in his interest long term.
Engelland isn't going anywhere, nor would he get bumped as the 6th guy. He's decent in his own end, physical, can handle 15ish minutes and on an amazing contract. For those reasons others might go, but he'll be around for a while yet.
Additionally, replacing Orpik with Despres and giving Strait top 6 icetime means our D would likely be some of the easiest to play against. Strait, Nisky, Letang and Despres are all alright, and Engo is physical, however Michalek is far from it. And other than Engo, the rest don't do much more than 1.2 hits a game... That's NOT enough. We saw this in the Philly series... doing this gives us more scoring - which was NOT our problem, while simply changing around our D. I'm not sure it's better at all... at least not until Despres and Strait mature more.
