I know exactly what will happen if Brodeur signs. The first few games that Halak will struggle (obviously in November), everyone will be clamoring for Brodeur's veteran mysticism and winniness. Then when Brodeur plays poorly a whole bunch of excuses will be made for him (he plays well when he gets 4 games rest and doesn't play back to back!). Isles finish 34-37-11.
If we didn't have the Vanek trade to worry about I would take a chance. I believe he could be one of those goalies who turns his A-game up when he is 25ish. That being said to much risk given our situation
Funny thing....Montoya went to pot after his injuries and after time looked solid. Maybe never gonna be a tandem or starter but NHL goods. Poulin had his injury set back. Last year was erratic. I'd hold onto him and let him play in the Bridge just to see if he gets back on the horse or not.
I am so thankful Nilsson gets to play in Europe to develop. I haven't written either off. Koskinen as well.
Pass on Lindback... last thing we need is Nilsson 2.0. Tall, underachieving goalie that doesn't use his size to his advantage.
I agree, if the last few years have taught us anything, it's the importance of a halfway-decent backup goalie. This team can't afford to take on a project like Lindback, who has been getting worse instead of better, and hope he turns it around. Would much rather see Montero brought back, he put up surprisingly good numbers with WPG last year. Greiss is a solid option as well.
