The way I see it:

Scenario A) Draisaitl is on the team come October. Some people worry about him developmentally. Some don't. Probably won't make an "impact" on the team's standing.
Scenario B) Draisaitl is back in the juniors. No one is worried about him developmentally. He definitely cannot make an "impact" on the team's standing.

Just seems like there is medium risk/low-medium reward in scenario A, and no risk/low-medium reward in scenario B (depending on how you measure reward; reward meaning he develops fine. Risk is him floundering in the NHL and losing developmental progress).
I believe that we should let LD, arco, lander, and stop gap C battle it out for the 2/3 spots.

On LD specifically though whether are you are a win now type or a long term future type you should support sending him back.

Our best chance of winning, unless he absolutely blows it out of the park in the first 9, is with a stop gap C that can battle with Arco and Lander for our 2/3 spots.

For financial and ECL reasons our best future outlook is served by keeping LD off the books another year and ensuring that the years we are paying him are the more effective years.

I'm not saying he has anything left to learn in the dub or that he needs to bulk. I am saying he will be better at 19/20/21 than he will at 18/19/20 and the longer we postpone ECL is the longer we keep our cap low and finances healthy.

Certainly this means we are trading for a center, right?

Right?

That seems pretty darn reasonable, no?

Perfect 3C on a well rounded team.
The problem with Berglund is the price it would take to get him, You can't send St.Louis back salary otherwise the trade would not make sense for them being so tight to the cap, so Petry is out.

Didn't Bob Stauffer say that the asking price for Berglund was a 1st round pick. He than tweeted right after that they might be able to get a late first for him or a 2nd with a good prospect.

I could see Edmonton trading a 2nd and a prospect, but it matters what kind of prospect they are looking for.

If they want forward prospects I would offer something like a 2015 2nd + Pitlick/Lander/Arco

If they want a defensive prospect I would offer any of them not named Marcinin/Klefbom/Nurse..so some one in that Simpson/Gernat range.

Legwand to Ottawa. My god, are we really going to stand pat and rely on Arco/Draisaitl for 2C?

I don't remember free agency being this barren by July 4 in long time.

- Steve Ott
- Derek Roy

In that order. I think a playoff team will snatch Ott up. I'll start worrying when Roy goes somewhere else.

So that Legwand contract is very affordable, which kinda sucks, however good news, it likely makes Ott a lot cheap.

Maybe $2-2.5M per year over 2 yrs for Ott.

Think we should try a one year deal on Ribeiro? He is kind of the same as all of our small forwards, but he is one season removed from being a consistently close ppg player... I think he is due for a rebound year.

I've come to terms that MacT is probably thinking RNH/Arco/Draisaitl/Gordon as his centers this year.

which is contrary to what MacT has said. How about we just hang on to our horses til mid Sept. If it comes down to RNH-Arco-Draisaitl-Gordon so be it.. Still an upgrade over what we had last season.

Don't know why they wouldn't use hendricks as the 4th C, and Gordon as a 3rd C.
Arco can be a good second line C I think, and Draisaitl can start on the wing.

Would have liked Legwand, but it seemed that he wasn't really that interested in coming out this way. It also seemed that we were not overly aggressive on him. So look's like trade or waiver wire which is not ideal.

Will wait and see prior to fully passing judgement.

I think 1 of Gernat/Musil/Simpson + 2015 3rd + 2016 2nd would get it done.

It doesn't cost us any significant assets
Stl clears cap space and gets a good defensive prospect and some decent picks
