Our magic number is 11 both against wash for div and 11 for the playoffs.

6 points is the magic number to win the division. Any combination of us gaining points and the caps failing to acquire points adding up to 6 does it. So when we win (2 points) and caps lose in OT (failing to get a point) shaves 3 off magic #.

The math freak in me loves seeing this kind of stuff! Heck if we get 6 OTLs the rest of the way we clinch (even if the Caps win all their games). Just play sound hockey for 60 minutes boys and the division is yours.

Interesting thing here. The site put together another scenario based on the potential (shotdown by union) "realignment".

We'd be in Conference "C" as the #2 seed with a shot at the #1 seed in that Conference.

For the caps game:
The issue of how we win the division will come into play Thursday perhaps...

If our magic # is tragically still 4 than we need to win outright to clinch division..

If its three than an OT win does it.

Two or one than GETTING into OT does it.
