Lupul was made of glass. He would come in have a hot week or two and get an injured again. Rinse and repeat.

Lupul is a big time suck. He has a great season with the leafs, then next season the leafs got JVR and Lupul was never the same ever again. '

I really don't think he's unfit to play persay, But I think the leafs have robidas'd him for their personal interest.

His body failed him. Having 2011 Lupul on this team right now would be amazing. But I suppose in getting older, he wasn't as able to recover from his injuries as he once was.

I figured he just has a permanent injury which he played through all these years, but this year management decided to say no so they could put him on the LTIR.

I have a feeling if he is close to capable to playing, he would. With expansion, he may find his way back for atleast one or 2 seasons. Thus it will be interesting if he decides to push his way off Robidas Island to coin a phrase and work something out with the Leafs so he can.

Maybe he can find a way to get traded for Chris Pronger a 3rd time.

I wouldn't say its that rare of an occurrence just that those who do play late into their 30s can sometimes be completely random. Shawn Thornton for example is pushing 40 and is still playing where as Heatley who was a 50 goal scorer was out of the league by 33.

I have had a soft spot for him ever since he was traded to the Flyers. He did a lot of good things in Philadelphia. he was a good NHL player but man he was brittle.
