Where does Justin Schultz sign? [MOD: All Schultz Talk]
So I guess my point is it seems as if people have a problem with players having any power, but never with the GMs having power. I find it interesting.
Nope. Players have plenty of power when they get to free agency. The Entry Draft is meant to give all teams a chance to get young talent for their team. For a player to circumvent the purpose of the draft by exploiting a loophole is not business as usual.
They need to close the loophole or at least require the signing team to compensate the team that drafted the player.

Are you suggesting it would have been ethical of the Ducks to trade his rights to a team without the other team being aware of the situation? No one is going to trade anything worthwhile for a college prospect that wants to hit free agency. Entry-level contracts have limitations, so if the Ducks can't sign him, it's pretty likely the other team can't either unless it just happens to be the team or one of the teams the player would sign for.
Not sure how that makes him a d**k. Anaheim gave him time to think it over, he made the decision to go back to school (wow what a dick for wanting an education!) and in Justin's own words, Anaheim hounded him.
If someone hounds me I'm probably gonna say whatever it is they wanna hear too so they'll leave me the hell alone, and then secretly I'd be waiting for my chance to screw them over.
Justin never said "I'll play for Anaheim, trust me" He said something close, but completely different.
Sounds like Anaheim trusted him, only problem was, Anaheim thought he was going to play for them, Justin said he WANTS to play for them, not he WILL. There is quite the difference.
Did you proof read your post at all?
Schultz gave Anaheim his word and has backed out there is no way around it. he's a liar and that's why we're clowning this dude, not b/c of the rule
Didn't get thru the whole 42 pages (lol, what a bunch diehards) ...can someone give the synthesized goods on this guy?
So, he was a 2nd rounder for the Ducks and didn't sign, so going to UFA, and will sign w someone for the entry level max, is that right?
How much is that and who's a comparable player?
Thanks

TSN’s Bob McKenzie even considers Schultz the third best potential free agent this summe

“Schultz looks filthy good every shift he takes for Wisconsin and he clearly doesn't belong in college anymore. His ability to make plays at both ends and control the game is pretty high end.”
He has been compared favourably to Jake Gardiner, but is believed to possess slightly better offensive and defensive ability. He is a tremendous skater and has good offensive instincts. He sees the ice very well and knows when to jump into the play. Corey Pronman, an independent scout who writes for ESPN, says he projects as a top-pairing defenceman.
Quote:
His skating ability; his ability with the puck, both puck handing, both shooting the puck; and then his vision of the ice, he has got the whole package in terms of skills. Every day in practice, you can almost bet that he is going to be your hardest working player. So that's a great combination to have; that combination of skills in terms of ability, but then being wired the way he is to work as hard as he does and to be as competitive as he is.

If you had to look at a defenseman in the NHL, is there one that you think Schultz is similar to?
ME: It's hard for me to say that because I don't watch as many games as you do when you're at that level. I'd almost have to go back and into the days when I was coaching or maybe even playing to find a guy, but even that's hard. Somebody else has said that Justin reminds people a little bit of Scott Niedermayer in terms of his ability to play with his skating, and his ability to see the ice and do things, but he's not the biggest of guys as a defenceman. Justin isn't a 6‑foot‑2‑inch, 210. He's a taller, slighter young man, but his ability to do things like Niedermayer did is an awful nice comparison.

How is his defence zone coverage?
ME: It's probably the area that he's grown the most in terms of body position, in terms of stick position, in terms of understanding where the puck's going defensively and being able to anticipate that. He's done a nice job.
The one thing that's going to jump off the ice is his offensive prowess in terms of jumping in, creating stuff, but as a defensive D-man he really has improved. Billy Butters and I have worked with him on the small things. You look for more detail into his pivots, into his puck position, into how he engages one‑on‑one. Does he keep his stick on the ice and lead with it? Does he blockout at the side of the net when people are trying to get there? These are the kind of areas that he's improved in, and at least at this level he was able to control those areas.

Pretty much, due to a loop hole in the CBA he doesnt have to sign with the Ducks. He still could but the speculation at this point is because he hasnt already that he does not want to.
We dont know why exactly, and there is nothing but inklings and intuition as to where he might sign.
I think the teams you hear of the most are Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver, but nothing backs that up.
Not sure what his hit will be, but I think he will sign for $925,000 and then a bunch of bonuses if he completes xyz blah blah, so his caphit will be higher than $925,000.
Comparable? Depends on who you ask, I think he should probably have a Gardiner like rookie year, as he certainly possesses a similar offensive game, if not a more advanced one depending on who you ask. In fact its been noted they play quite similar, but that Schultz might be more dynamic.
If there has been tampering -- why would Toronto trade anything? If there hasn't and the kid HAS made up his mind -- why trade anything. Might as well just wait it out and let the chips fall.

Anaheim is a valuable trading partner and Toronto has a good relationship with them. I think I would be a good idea to help them out in this situation. If I were Burke, I'd send Murray a list of players/prospects he could have his pick from. It's important to take care of your friends.
As a leaf fan, hopefully he signs in T.O, but realisticly there are many very good options out there for him. Almost every team would like to sign him, but where does he end up?
