Disclaimer : I KNOW that this will NEVER happen, but for fun and discussion purposes, imagine the following scenario :
We are out of a playoff spot nearing the deadline, Alfie asks to go to a contender in the West (Detroit, Chicago, etc), and also states definitively that this is his last season he will play (unlikely since he wants to play in Sochi, but this is a hypothetical situation). We trade him, then go on a tear, like Jersey a couple of years ago. By some miracle, both the Sens and the team we traded Alfie to make the Cup final. Considering how much we all love Alfie, and that this would 100% be his last season, who would you be rooting for?
I suspect I know the answer, but am curious to find out the spread of answers.
Sens... and Id want Chris Neil to smear him everytime he was on the ice...
You forgot the .
If this was serious, its a bit excessive, dontchathink? This is Alfie we're talking about, not Matt Cooke (i.e. the anti-Alfie). I get that he is on the other team, but still... LOL
It should be club before country and definitely club before player.
So if Alfie asks to go to a contender because its his last shot and it looks like we have no chance, you would view him as a traitor? Then I guess every free agent that has ever signed with another team is a traitor in your book.

Maybe not a traitor but I wouldnt want him to win more than my team. Thats crazy. And yes, I was serious about Chris Neil.
Game 7, overtime, Daniel Alfredsson has the puck, turns around starts going on a breakaway against his own goalie...scores! Takes off jersey, has Sens Jersey underneath and celebrates with the team. Only way that would end.

This is right out of the WWE........ and I LOVE it!
If that little snot leaves our team for another and they meet in the playoffs he's public enemy #1. If he signs back with us next year it's Alfie...Alfie... Alfie.
It would suck but I would be cheering for the Senators
But like when Tampa beat Calgary or Anaheim beat us, having some other class act on the winning team finally getting a cup makes defeat a lot easier to take!
Just when I think you couldn't possibly come up with weirder hypotheticals.
I take pride in outdoing myself.
But I don't think this is that weird. Unlikely? Sure. Weird? No.

Sure was great to see Pronger finally win the big one!
I'd wait until overtime game 7 of the series then close my tv when Alfredsson rushes up ice with it and retire my viewing of the NHL and consider it a win. While I have a smile on my face, I dim the lights and go into an eternal slumber where butterflies cruise around me and the thoughts of the chant "Alfredsson! Alfredsson!" envelope my mind as he wears a Sens jersey... one. more. time....

So the Sens are in the finals and I'm supposed to cheer AGAINST them? WTF?
