Ryan O'Reilly to Nashville

Given Nashville's depth at defense and their need for a pivot, what would the Avalanche have to add to Ryan O'Reilly to get one of Seth Jones or Roman Josi.

I think Seth Jones is out of the question, but assuming Nashville can come to a reasonable term deal with O'Reilly, I think a Josi swap is fair.

That's kind of my feeling as well. Just figured I'd throw his name in the mix for fun.

Taking contracts into account, why in the heck would nashville do this?

and josi for ror is nowhere near equal. the length of control over a player comes into play with NHL GMs

So let's see 6 years at 4 mill or say 2 years at 6.5(QO i belive) .. Take a guess witch one im taking.. It would take ror signing for 6 years at say 5 mill to make it even. That wont happen so no josi or jones

And concussion history comes into play as well. Aside from ROR's salary demands, he's got zero baggage and only upside. And since Nashville is still rebuilding some, it's not like cost controlled years are exactly required, you'd have the room to add him so long as the cash was there.

He also does not have a contract. That's not something you can overlook.

A deal centred around RoR for Josi is a great deal for both teams and addresses areas of need. One side may have to add.

Colorado definitely adds. Josi is signed to an amazing contact.

Preds fans, how many concussions has Josi had? I've seen a few varying numbers. Curious to know what the exact total is.

This whole thread was started with "what would the Avalanche have to add to Ryan O'Reilly to get one of Seth Jones or Roman Josi."

Can we stop filling it with "Colorado would have to add" posts and maybe answer with ummm what they might have to add?

If Josi goes in a trade we will need a solid LHD coming back. We do not have a replacement for him. Because of this a ROR for Josi swap would not happen even if you could consider the value equal.

With Weber,Jones,Del Zotto (who I hope is qualified and comes into his own under Lavi)Ellis,Ekholm,Bartley, I would want a sign and move deal. Let Colorado lock him up on a good contract and then yeah I'd trade Josi for him. Just one fans opinion,

Damn that's scary. He might be only 24, but he's also one or two concussions away from retirement and we all know that the more concussions you get, the easier it is to get concussed again.

That's much scarier than ROR's contract situation IMO. AVS will have to pass.

What about this Colorado re-signs ROR and Stastny and trade Predators Duchene.

Would This work?

Seth Jones + 11th overall + Colin Wilson
For
Duchene

This gives Nashville a true #1 center and Colorado still has great Center depth.

Duchene is not going anywhere for anything. He's untouchable

If Duchene is going to Nashville, Weber is going the other way.

Sorry Penguins of the West.

If that is the case Josi and Jones are untouchable.

Pretty much every team has a few untouchable players. No one is in here asking for Weber or Rinne because well... obviously they are going nowhere. In retrospect Jones is likely on that list for Nashville.

The Avalanche have made a long term financial commitment to precisely three players. Duchene, Landeskog, and Varlamov. Those three + MacKinnon can pretty safely be considered untouchable. That doesn't make anyone the "Penguins of the West" it doesnt make them homers, it makes them realists and it tries to keep the conversation on track.

Josi isn't getting moved any time soon because it means MDZ or Ekholm are playing on our 1st pairing neither of which have established themselves as anything more than 2nd pairing players right now. Jones might be moved but it would probably have to be a very big plus to get Poile to move his dream boy. People keep trying to work up trades around Josi/Jones but realistically if any of our defense moves its going to be MDZ/Ekholm/Ellis.

All we have is Weber, Josi, Jones, Rinne, maybe Wilson that every team seems to want but do not want to give up the pieces we need to get them. I like ROR but we need a true #1 center to make us a legit contender. We are not a ROR away from winning the cup.
