Sure they have top end talent gifted to them in Hall, Nugent-Hopkins but more is needed. Pittsburgh went out and got Gonchar and had guys like Fleury, Orpik, Talbot, Scuderi, Gill the grit and depth you need to win the cup. I really dislike the way EDM is trying to build their team, they really need some grit, size and depth to ever be able to compete. You will not succeed with top end talent alone. As much as Yakupov is CLEARLY the #1 overall pick, they NEED a different type of player. Too bad, this leads to a bad situation for them, IMO, whereas they cannot not take Yakupov BUT Yakupov is not the best selection for the team. More small wingers...this Oilers are going nowhere, IMO.

Blue Jackets deserved and should have gotten Yakupov. Too bad. I don't like the NBA system, I would not be AT ALL opposing to scrapping the lottery altogether. Professional athletes do not tank and if the GM's want to trade all assets for young players/picks, that's up to the GM. Not neccessary, IMO.
Yea they could screw it up for sure but in the hands of a proper team I love their base.......I think size and grit can be systematically added but elite talent is tough to come by. It is a tougher era to make changes in but RNH, Eberle, Nail (Hall if he adapts) is a heck of a skill base to build around.

I look at it as similar to Toews Kane or Crosby Malkin.........if you have two elite potential top 10 NHL scorers you can add the rest if you are a normal organization. I see RNH, Eberle, and Nail as 3 guys that could be right up there with Kane and Toews.

they will have to build around it and they will have to hope some of their current D prospects bloom but I see a window of 4 to 5 years to get this pulled off.

The Nords traded all 3 of their #1 picks. None of Sundin, Nolan or Lindros were on the championship team. Sundin turned into Wendell Clark, Nolan turned into Sandis Ozolinsh and Lindros turned into Forsberg and Roy (through Thibault)
