Because it's a rule. It's not a rule in the NHL, therefore the Sabres don't have to do anything.

If you want to argue that the NFL is a bigger and better league than the NHL, that's fine, but this thread isn't about that.

Kim said that they accomplished so much of what they set out to do, including record local TV ratings and record attendance -- and "another magical run" to close out the season. Funny how we have an owner who said if he wanted to make money, he'd go drill a well, and yet the first two accomplishments mentioned involve increased revenue rolling into his pockets.

Terry talked about an "incredible journey," apparently referring to the season. To paraphrase ole TPeg, if he thinks that the season was incredible, or that the run was magical, we have bigger problems than we thought.

And that's where I'm at. It seriously looks like amateur hour over at the arena.

Not to go too far off topic, but based on revenue generated, the NHL is very much a part of the Big Four.
The NFL generates about three times more revenue than the NHL does and about seven times more profit, but the NHL is not far off from the NBA in terms of profit or revenue.

Don't try to claim that the MLS is anywhere near the Big Four either.
The NHL makes the least revenue of the Big Four, but that amount is still 11.5 times greater than the MLS' revenue.
