How they wound up in Foxborough in the first place was quite a story.

Bill Veeck had proposed funding a stadium to be built on what was a landfill in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. The stadium would be paid by Veeck getting additional racing days at Suffolk Downs which he ran. Of course the NIMBY's came out and formed a 'Save Our Dump' committee and the proposal died.

Then the owner of Bay State Raceway in Foxborough donated land for a new stadium in return for lifetime parking receipts. Years later Kraft wound up owning those parking lots and later the old stadium when the Sullivan family made the fatal mistake of thinking they could outsmart Don King in being co-promoters of a Michael Jackson tour.

Great synopsis of the Chargers' attempts to get a stadium built since 2002. Note there were at least two attempts at private funding.

Old Trafford isn't really renovated. They had to basically build a new stadium after the war and rebuild again after the issuing of the Taylor Report. If Ann had realized that, she would have also figured out that UK stadiums are not liked for the fan experience (as they have to be all-seater).

She also hasn't been to the Bernabeau or the Camp Nou and she would get why those don't work for the NFL or the North American fan as a whole. Its pretty basic in terms of seating and amenities and there's a reason why building such stadiums, even the grand ones, seem rather cheap.
Exactly. European soccer stadiums, to my knowledge, aren't built to be the one stop shop for entertainment, or be the anchor tenant for a district downtown. They are essentially for games and nothing else. Most people would drink/have food beforehand, go to the game, and leave.

Seven mayors in a decade? Sounds like the Barracks Emperors.

I pity anyone who has to try and get something substantial done in California. They don't appear to want to make it easy. I'd say it serves San Diego right but they're just moving up to LA, so the saying "same $hit different pile" is apropos.
