as to your question, an upcoming UFA can be worth similar value to players signed to good contracts, when what they offer can be easily replaced in the off season. How much would you trade to get Raymond back? Would you trade more to get back three years of Raymond, given you can sign players like him in the off season? Why wasn't Raymond signed when his cost, in trade, was free?
There's a massive difference between Raymond and Hansen.

Raymond is an offensive tweener that cannot play in the NHL playoffs... he literally vanishes and based on regular season #'s he's more expensive than he should be (usually... like next year he will cost more than a Hansen).

Hansen has a very specific role as a great 3rd line forechecking winger who kills penalties.

If you have a team with a bottom 6 RW hole and poor PK you can't get much better than Hansen, especially for the price.

Terrible comparison... lol Raymond.

I'd do it if it was a conditional 3rd (conditional on Hansen re-signing in Winnipeg - which he probably would anyways, seeing as his wife is from there).

Your point, seemed to me, that you can find these players easily in offseason's. 'Raymond yes, Hansen no'... was my point.

Hansen is already signed. He's $1.33 mil this year then he has a $2.5 mil/year, 4 year deal that starts July 1st.

Would be more like Setoguchi and a conditional pick based on him re-signing in Vancouver.

Gross.

Keep Hansen. Just sign Seto in the off-season. If he wants to re-sign here, he'll be willing to sign here.
