I don't mind Strickland against a left-hander if he's going to use his off-speed stuff but his fastball is too straight to try and sneak by big league hitting. The one with Machi there's no excuse for when Lopez was ready and there were lefties behind Taveras. Bochy is better than that.
The Strickland move was a bad one too. Not only because he'd gotten shelled in his last few appearances, but because Adams kills fastballs. If anything he should have brought Strickland in against Tavares and had Machi pitch to Adams. With Bochy's track record I'll chalk this one up as an aberration, but he made a number of questionable moves last night (the Lopez situation that you mentioned was the most baffling).
