Think there would be any interest this time around?
I can't see it...

I don't think there is either. They have too many bodies to begin with, so they would have to waive someone like Boyce/Rosehill.

He's only getting 7 minutes of ice-time this team, down from the 14 he was getting last year.

If the Leafs feel Crabb isn't a long-term solution (UFA at years end), he could be someone they swap in for Crabb. Armstrong is likely to find the 3rd line sooner or later, so Stewart can potentially slot into the 4th line.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick of waiting for the leafs to contend. Waiting till next year and next year after that is not going to work, it's the same exact situation except with older players and a year wasted.

Trade for elite players while you can
I think the point people are making is that we're not one really good player away from contention. So if a trade makes sense in terms of the long-term interests of the team. Going by talent/depth/salary cap/prospects/picks/filling needs/etc, then sure.

But don't overpay for someone with the intent of it being a "for the cup run" type of move, since we're not that one move away from going on a cup run realistically.

Getting Ryan and Carter will be hard, but I think we have the assets to do it.

Kadri + Colborne + MacArthur + Holzer for Ryan
1st 2012 + Connolly + Aulie for Carter

We have depth and our players actually have value right now. And the team looks to be buying into the system now, they're playing great as of late. That could also mean we shouldn't break up the team, but honestly we would just be trading prospects who aren't even playing on the big club right now, and 2 players who are being replaced by 2 elite players.
Our top-5 prospect cupboard after these two trades would be:

Gardiner (soon-to-graduate)
Frattin (2nd-3rd liner)
McKegg (2nd-3rd liner)
Biggs (3rd-4th liner, question marks)
Percy (top-4 in 5-6 years)

Why don't we try a new, revolutionary way of building the Leafs, something we've never tried before: having patience and developing our players?

He will certainly be claimed but probably not by us, if we did claim him Boyce or Rosehill would have to be waived.

Hearing CAR's Anthony Stewart is being put on today's waiver wire at 12 noon ET. Stewart has one more full season at $900K on his contract.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie

SJS put Andrew Murray on waivers. BOS puts Zach Hamill on waivers. And, as reported earlier, CAR puts Anthony Stewart on waivers.

I'd be for Stewart. He would do well to use his size more to rack up some more hits, but he could be a decent reclamation project, much like we did with Mac (albeit not as talented), but he has some decent pedigree

I hate doing trade proposals but im being a hypocrit and doing one now.

I think if we go after Carter, and based on all the surrounding details and Burke's attempt to go after him at the draft (maybe), the idea doesn't seem that far fetched.

Anyways I think this could be something that works:

To Toronto:

Jeff Carter

To Columbus:

Tim Connolly
Matt Frattin
1st Roud draft pick

OR

Tim Connolly
Luke Schenn
2nd Round draft pick
3rd Round draft pick

Stewart would be perfect because he brings size and toughness, and this way we wouldn't have to give up any assets for him. If he doesn't work, it's a small contract.

I have a bad feeling there will be a trade invloving Ryan Malone to Toronto with Burke sending a young defenceman the other way and whatever else to make it work under the salary cap. I really hope this doesn't happen, I'd rather he make no trades than bringing in an older player.

Really?

I have the sense that a deal like that or similar is the farthest thing from happening

Hmmm, maybe we could get a pick for Crabb, put Stewart on the fourth line and bump Army back to the third?

Army Connolly Lombardi
Stewart Steckel Brown

I prefer TSN.

But it all comes down to how many trades actually take place.

Both basically break trades at the same time, barring commercials...

Really comes down to flavour imo

I remember a lot of dudes saying Zach Hamill would have been a good return from Boston for Kaberle, now 23 and cut.

Haha yeah, i remember that, with his face all blacked out and voice changed.

Can't blame them, that was like the second year he had created hockey buzz, was at the height of his popularity and people were all over him... I'll give eklund one thing, he was original... even though its complete BS, he did it first.

I usually go TSN, higher production value, they break most of the trades... they've also just got like 3x the people sportsnet has, lots of analysis and what not.
