Really loving this hypothetical thread, Jagr is indeed better than Ovechkin, Lidstrom a top 5 d in his career, and hasek a top 3 goalie are all better than Ovechkin and people are saying it like it's a crime.

They're all also better than Crosby.

Number of cups is not a measure of a players ability and should never be used to judge them.

Not a chance at this point. He has a chance but he still has a long ways to go before he's even considered to Jagr or Lidstrom.

What about peak Ovechkin vs. those other players?

I've never been a huge fan of Ovechkin, but he had one of the most dominant 3
year stretches I've ever seen from 2007 to 2010.

171 goals, 331 points in 233 games with 20 goals, 40 points in 28 playoff games. Absolute domination. For what it's worth that is .733 goals per game and 1.42 points per game in the regular season and .714 goals per game and 1.43 points per game in the playoffs.

I think Brett Hull, Lafontaine, Fedorov, Bure, and Chara could be added to that second tier as well.

If anything, I'd say he has a very strong chance to be on the same level as Jagr/Lidstrom/Hasek given that he's gonna be 28 this upcoming year and will be in his prime.

At the same age, here's what the big Euro 3 had:

Jagr
- 2 Stanley Cups
- 4 Art Ross trophies
- 1 Hart
- 2 Lesters
- 5 time first all-star
- Gold medal.

Lidstrom
- 2 Stanley Cups
- 1 time first all-star

Hasek
Nothing.

If Ovechkin can put up similar performances for the next 5 years and continues to rack up hardware along with possibly winning a cup, he will be on the same level as these guys and ahead of the Selanne/Forsberg/Kurri level.
I wonder if he'll split LW and RW votes for first team all-star and take both for second team.

Jagr's peak was about at that level IMO. Hasek's too.

Very silly post. He's head and shoulders above everyone else on that roster.

It would be close to impossible to match Jagr's numbers and resume. Jagr is 2nd best winger in game after Howe. Gotta remember it's not fair to compare center to winger. Jagr's numbers are sick for a winger.

Hasek, Lidstrom and Jagr are the three best.

Ovechkin has a chance to be at their level, given his resume, but he's going to have to keep it up to be in the same category as those three.

Is it possible for him to get there? Yes it is. But at this point he's not close and has a ton of work to do.

And with his playing style I dont know how well he will age. He's such a physical force along with the offensive ability it might take a toll.

There's this dude named Jagr that won't allow that to happen (along with a good list of other players). He would have to definitely step up his game for a good amount of time to be in contention.

Gotta be Jagr, take a peek at the NHL history leader statsheet. 8th most points in NHL history with 1,688, 5th all time in playoff points with 197, most GWG goals in NHL history with 118 (tied with Espo,) most overtime goals in the regular season in NHL history. I'd say Ovechkin has a lot of work to do to claim that seat.
