As I understand it, he could technically leave school in September if that was what he wanted.

Not sure if true, but on the Oilers board, the general thinking atm is that he must declare after the draft to become a FA, otherwise he will be draft eligible.

He is not draft eligible. He's 22 years old, and would be a UFA (CBA section 8.4(a)(v) and 10.1(d)). The draft shouldn't have any bearing on his timing.

Thread closed, someone may make a new one if you want but I don't think there's a point until there's some news.

edit: wait. 8.4av doesn't apply because there's an and clause, and he was drafted. Now I'm confused.
