Initially I don't think anyone thought he would come in so strong and stay at that level. The 65 goals season was insane, noone else has done it in 15 years I believe. I had a feeling at the end of 2010 he was falling off and the next two seasons were rather disappointing. This year, he's back to form, I wasn't sure he could get there again, but he's looked amazing after the first dozen games and the odd couple of "off" games. This doesn't mean he's looked bad every night in those fifteen games, some he looked bad in and some he just didn't look amazing.
In 2010, that wouldn't have been such a strange thing to think. Three straight Lindsay trophies and only missed a third straight Hart because of his suspensions.
Well, at that point he was probably the best player since Lemieux so yeah. Some might have thought that he was on the way of becoming the one who breaks the "Big-4". But at the start of his NHL career he has done better than fine.
When you get 2 Harts, 1 Art Ross, and 3 Rocket Richards in your first 8 seasons, that's exceeding expectations. I mean, even Bobby Hull had "just" 0 Harts, 2 Art Ross, and 3 goal-scoring titles at the same point of his career.
