Columbus Blue Jackets switching to paperless tickets (upd: other teams as well)
It would make more sense if they had some kind of smartphone feature. Then you could just send an e-ticket to whoever you're giving the seats to.
Well, it's just a barcode. I mean if you can bring up your email on your phone they could probably just scan the code right off of it. It would work fine...unless the ticket-scanners are instructed that they should only scan paper.
Another Coyotes fan has posted about it but I have my season tickets on a card as well and think it's quite convenient. I won't have to worry about forgetting my ticket and I feel safer about it being stored electronically in case of loss or theft. Also it seems like selling or forwarding tickets would be even more convenient than it would with hard tickets but I haven't given it a try yet.

Reason: smartphone keyboards can be annoying
Lose a single ticket? Whoops, that sucks, but there are still 40 other games.
Is that even a an issue for you? I know with my Hurricanes tickets in that case all I'd need to do is go the box office with photo id on gameday and they'd issue a replacement. Haven't had to it, but it's mentioned in the official info packet.
I received my CBJ ticket cards today. Very nice. I can still forward PDFs of tickets to people from my account or print them if I'd like. It's really perfect for me, especially if I have to go to the rink straight from work.
They did give two printed tickets for opening day for the collectors, which was a nice touch.
We as Preds fans still have a few bugs with it. Those of us with two cards for two seats are having problems loading our second card. This should be worked out in the next 48 hrs. However our parking passes are also on our card, but we have to print them out currently. This is a good idea for many people, it may not work for all. We need to be patient as the bugs are worked out of the system. If we had a schedule that started on time things would have been better.
(There was a bit of firestorm over accompanying materials that indicated that in future years there would be a $2.50 charge to forward or print tickets, but the team back pedaled and said they'd waive that fee.)

Waive it or remove it? Waiving it sounds like a temporary measure that they will only do for a certain amount of time. Removing it entirely is what they should do, especially since they are a profitable operation.

I've seen people try to show the .pdf ticket on a smartphone. It doesn't scan, since the barcode readers rely on the ticket reflecting back the laser and the glass just reflects back everything (now an e-ink display like an e-reader would probably work). They were sent off with a supervisor to the box office which could verify the tickets.
Now if the barcode scanners used were purely optical - like using your smartphone camera to read a barcode for the Amazon app - then it would likely work.
Winnipeg is too. Jets fans are annoyed, although having tickets is enough to be happy, people wanted to treasure the ticket itself, as opposed to a card, they can share it to family or friends, like when they can't go to a home game, they'd just give it to someone else who could, plus you can't put it on your wall as a memorabilia it someone else is still using it. Printing tickets costs too much for what it's worth, there should be an option to either have the ticket package or a card for the STH.
I keep hearing the "Airlines have been ticketless for years" argument...Thing is you dont share Airline tickets! this is apples and oranges.
I'm part of a shared ticket season ticket group in Winnipeg and this is simply a pain in the arse.
Also keep hearing how its easier since all your tickets are on one card swipe in and done. Also doesnt work with shared tickets.
The enviromental freindly argument. Nope cause I have to use my printer at home to still print off the tickets.
I printed off my tickets last night on my home printer and they look so bushleague...cheap.
Ughhhh that many teams have switched to paperless ticketing for STH?!? I had this whole plan to collect the nice-looking season ticket from each arena and now the best I can do is collect computer printouts?

This royally sucks
The NHL thanks you for being such a dedicated fan!

lol yeah seriously.. Well as long as the Devils don't do this, or at least provide the option to get hard tix.. Otherwise that'll be 2 collections now down the drain.. I guess my trips to arenas are still about the experience, but I've had this plan for over 3 years and visited several arenas, working hard to make sure I got hard season tix from each
Meh. I like having not to drive around and deliver or pickup tickets. The program is a better souvenir anyways.
Framing sports tickets from pre-electronic days as a piece of memorabilia? Okay I guess. Nostalgic. Framing sports tickets from the electronic age as a piece of memorabilia? Not nostalgic...just kinda weird to me because physical tickets are obsolete...I'd rather use that frame for a nice print, a jersey, or a piece of art.
In other words, I'd trade 'ability to email your tickets/receive tickets via email' for 'paper memento' at the drop of a hat as long as it doesn't cost me anything. And it won't.
The Predators are doing this and I'm all in favor of it. All my games are loaded on my card so I no longer have to have that all crap moment walking to the game wondering if I forgot to bring my tickets (I got straight to the game after work). The Predators will still send you ticket books of void tickets for a keepsake. Also, you can transfer your tickets quite easily, although they haven't turned on the option to send to other cards yet.
