The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
Vegas will not work. There are 120 professional teams in NA (from the 4 big leagues). Not a single one in Vegas. Does the NHL really want to be the first one to make the jump?
Couple that with the inherent problems of opening a sports franchise in Vegas. There will certainly be owners who straight up refuse because of the gambling problems.
That's my guess as well. It was totally classless, and they probably received flak for it after the fact.
Quebec City is probably getting a team (great!) and it's probably going to come at the expense of another team's fans (just as unfair as it was when Winnipeg and Quebec City fans were screwed in the mid-1990s.)
Getting teams again is fantastic, but it's possible to be thrilled without rubbing people's noses in it.
This. As an Atlantan who read TSN daily to get hockey coverage that wasn't available locally, seeing that dumb logo on an official NHL broadcast partner was a constant reminder of how obvious it was that we were ultimately going to get hosed by our owners with full complicity of the Commisioner himself.

MLB has also stated Vegas as a possibility.
Basically Vegas doesn't have a pro team, not because they can't support one or don't want to, but because of the nature of the city.
I mean, if I can mention it, the fact that Nevada is a hotbed for....ladies of the night is one of many issues.
Las Vegas did have a CFL team with was semi-pro, it did poorly but that's because it was CFL....
The NHL is at the bottom of the 4 major sport leagues, so they should in effect be the first to make a move there.
"Jetsmeter" was pretty classless on TSN's part as it is. If, for instance, the rumors were that the Coyotes were moving to Atlanta, I certainly would be aghast at the presence of a "Thrashersmeter" on ESPN.
The fact that TSN can be influenced by Bettman Inc. over somethin as trivial as a 'meter' goes to show how much of a mouthpiece they are for the league. People should really keep that fact in mind the next time they read an article on there by Dreger, Mckenzie, etc.

As long as you assume the ramblings on here are correct.
Just trying to build up the TSN-as-NHL-mouthpiece strawman for negotiating time eh?
Was the Jetsmeter not originally created by the guy who ran the website Jetsowner? I am pretty sure TSN used his Jetsmeter. This is possibly why Quebec doesn't have one because no one is running a website like that?

Yes jets owner had it first and TSN copied the idea, it was not exactly the same
