I love those really smart guys who come in and say, "oh the top money makers earn more profit therefore they get an advantage." You do realize there is a difference between being profitable and having a competitive advantage right?
Honestly I like there to be parity and I think that the NHL has done a good job. Would the Leafs earn nearly as much revenue if the league had 12 teams? I doubt there would be close to as much interest in the NHL and revenues across the board would be lower...
So we want reward team A because they are making money for whatever reason. and we give them the first overall draft pick (defying all logic of course)
The year they get the first overall pick given to them--the top guy--is a generational talent. The team that is supposed to get the first overall pick is in a non traditional market where it battles say football, basketball and baseball for attention. By giving the first overall pick to a team based upon off ice factors--wouldn't we be penalizing the team that needs the most help?
Like I said, the idea of giving a top pick to a team that has little or no competition in a traditional hockey because they are more successful then a team that has stiff competition is silly and stupid.
Give the team a chance to host drafts or when the world cup comes around, but by rewarding them with picks hurts other clubs. Also, as I said earlier--if they are not within $100bucks of the cap they should not be rewarded
Yes management has been horrible but IMO the media is got to be a huge problem. If they were to just lay off then Toronto would become a prime destination to play. Winning in Toronto is like no where else.
OP:Your magical Toronto already has an advantage over teams such as the Ducks that have an internal budget. Yet we do a lot a better than Toronto. Spend the money on staff, equipment, scouts and so on and so on. It's an insane advantage, but failing to use it or do it wrong for decades is pathetic.

so let me get this right, this thread is just about rewarding the leafs for making money and no other teams? Vancouver, Edmonton, NYR and others make money as well and give just as much to other teams as the leafs. So for the OP to suggest that leafs get rewarded for giving the same money as other teams is just silly
