Joe Thornton isn't going to come to Edmonton... just as silly as those of us who would like to see Penner given a shot as a depth winger on the Oilers... ain't gonna happen.

Either way, I'd have issues paying so much for a 35 year old.

How about this then....

Penguins:
Arcobello, Nurse, 2015 1st.

Edmonton:
Crosby.

That fixes everything for us right there....on a side note, did you see what I did there to prove a point?

Why do I get the feeling it flew you by then? Mind you, it wasn't for you in the first place...I wasn't aware that BNL needed a bodyguard?

Making a proposal is fine, but at least have the courtesy to be somewhat realistic...if not, don't get pissy when people point out the obvious - just my two cents.

I am not giving up a 19 year hot Nurse for a 35 year old Thornton chocolate

Do we really need to pretend that no one ever wants to come to edmonton? I know its a 29th place team but schultz came here, ference, fayne, pouliot (guys who were "top" free agents before being signed)

Agreed its too much for a 35 year old.but its August, who else is even remotely available for a top six center?

Schultz came because he wanted to be part of the rebuild, and Ference, Fayne and Pouliot came for $$ and term.
Thornton is in a completely different situation. We're talking same money, same term, playing in San Jose for a contender, or Edmonton in a transition. And he's a 35 year old that has never won the cup.

Sobotka. Great defensively, gritty, has a decent scoring touch, and he's the best faceoff guy in the league. His deal has out clauses, so I'm sure he could come back

Blues fans have Berglund as their 3LW on their depth charts, and too many bottom-6 forwards on 1-way contracts.

Surely it can't be that difficult to get him.

I'm actually sort of hopeful that we'll get a #2C before the season starts or very early into it. There is some options out there and somebody will shake loose I would think. Berglund is of course one option, another would be Frans Nielsen. Isles have way too many C's and could/should trade one of them. Worst case scenario we probably get Loktionov and while that isn't going to make us a playoff team it at least gives us some depth and could prevent Leon from getting more than 9 games.

I think the Blues probably want to get a good sense of what Jori Lehtera is going to be for them before they put Berglund on the expendable list.

Well isn't nurse the chocolate technically? Thornton is more like a soon to expire vanilla yogurt or something

I believe because the Blues "won" an arbitration award of 1 year, 3.x ish mill, he's stuck with the Blues for at least 1 year the moment he's back in the NHL. He does become UFA after though.

I suppose that the fact he chose Avangard Omsk, based out of Siberia, means Edmonton has a chance when he becomes UFA
