And this is the problem. How do you expect to remove head shots from the game if you don't police them consistently? The only way to get rid of head shots is to make sure that a player knows that he will get X amount of games if he performs Y act, regardless of the outcome. If the punishment for that hit is variable depending on the severity of injury, who is hit, and who does the hitting, then the deterrent is weakened.
What this comes down to in my mind is this: Both Hagelin and Carkner deserved discipline. But IMO, what Carkner did was a worse offense therefore he should have gotten the longer suspension. At worst, it should have been the same number of games for both.
Hagelin is a 1st time offender. He's not a dirty player and he's not a headhunter. Sure he deserved discipline but I have a hard time saying that what he did deserved more time than what Carkner did.
Most Rangers fans think Carkner should've been suspended a few games; most Sens fans feel otherwise. No surprise there. It's playoff time, what can you do?
I agree, I would have given him 1-2 games, but saying that Alfie faked it, even though he missed half the game, is laughable.
I didn't say he faked it. I know some of my fellow fans did, but those just were probably some emotional knee jerk reaction at that time. Anyone who closely follows the NHL knows Alfie's a classy guy and has been through some concussion problems.
What is wrong with those numbers? Phillips threw the exact same hit and Carkner outright assaulted Boyle. No idea why Carkner shouldn't get 5+ for that disgraceful display of "hockey."

I would love it if the Rangers wasted a roster spot on John Scott. I encourage this.
I'm sure you would. The Sens would skate circles around Scott, who probably isn't even fast enough to catch up to anyone who deserves a beatdown. Scott is like a lumbering T-Rex on the ice.
